We both took early retirement from teaching a couple of years ago (in my case, jumped before I was pushed!), and decided to buy a small motorhome so that we could explore our beautiful island and Europe in all the extra free time we had.    We bought an Autocruise Sportstar, which has all we need (particularly a nice toilet, semi fixed bed and comfortable seats) and we've been delighted with it.  Our grown-up sons made fun of it at first, but already our older son and partner have been away in it and loved it.

The funny thing is that we gave up camping years ago saying we would never do it again, because we hated noisy neighbours, smelly toilets, dirty, cold showers, and lack of holiday luxury!  How things have changed in twenty years. Most places we have been to have been really clean and quiet.

We love cycling so our bikes go everywhere with us (although not to Derbyshire as I fell off just before and broke my arm!).   We've been to lots of lovely places in England (in spite of the weather last year), including Norfolk, Suffolk, Kent, Dorset, Hampshire, Somerset and Devon, and in Europe, including France, Belgium, Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic.  All great trips with no great adventures (touch wood) other than a flat battery in a remote car part in Somerset (AA rescue: I'm still impressed with how they found us), and getting pulled out of a muddy field (in Devon) by the friendly farmer.   Particular favourites?  Brittany, Klagenfurt (in Austria), Woodbridge (Suffolk), Whitstable (Kent) and North Devon in general.

This year we're touring Ireland (my father's home country) with friends in April, and perhaps Italy later in the year, as well as more short trips nearer to home.

We also love to visit countries further afield, and last year had a great trip to Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and San Francisco.  New Zealand is such a lovely place, perfect for motorhoming and we might try it sometime in the future before we are past it.  We flew to Seville and Granada recently to escape the cold weather, and loved the area, so that's another future destination.

But you can't beat dear old England as long as you don't think too much about the weather.  At least you can get a decent beer, and there's nowhere in the world quite as cosy as an old English village pub!  And much as I love travelling, it's also lovely here in East Sussex, with the best brewery in the world in Lewes (Harvey's).
