They say you're never more than 14 miles away from the coast when you're in Pembrokeshire. No wonder Wales is celebrating its 870-mile coastline this year with a series of themed events that come under the umbrella of the Year of the Sea. So, if you like fishing, sailing, surfing, diving, paddle boarding, kayaking, and coasteering, you'll be spoilt for
things to do in Pembrokeshire this year. But even if you're more of a sightseer than an adventurer, you still have your hands full visiting bustling harbours, towering cliffs, and ancient castles brimming with lore. Here's a short list of things to do in Pembrokeshire as soon as you've had your mandatory warm Welsh welcome:
Charity Abseil at Pembroke Castle
Indoor climbing has its perks, but how about taking things one step further with the
Tenby Climbing Wall Charity Abseil? On June 23 and September 23, 2018, fearless climbers take on
Pembroke Castle in an attempt to raise money for charity. Not only will the castle become one of your favourite places to visit in Pembrokeshire, but it will also be an opportunity to give back. Enjoy free entry to the castle for you and two of your friends on the day, if you have the courage to sign up and race. If you like your castle climbing races better from terra firma, then come along and cheer your favourite climber on. You don't have to look much further for accommodation than the Northcliffe, Broadfield Farm, or Trevayne Farm caravan parks near Tenby.
Fishguard International Music Festival
What do you get when you mix Pembrokeshire's glorious coastline with the greatest music of our times? The
Fishguard International Music Festival, of course. If you're wondering what to do in Pembrokeshire in late July, then wonder no more. An event that runs from July 23 to August 3 this year, the festival at Fishguard brings you quartets, chamber music, orchestras, choirs, family-friendly concerts, as well as classic guitar, harp, and flute solos at four venues across Pembrokeshire.
IRONMAN Triathlon on the Coast
The greatest sporting event of the year, the
Ironman Wales triathlon will once again bring together athletes and spectators in their thousands at Tenby on September 9, 2018. So, if you're looking for things to do in Pembrokeshire, come cheer on those brave contestants as they swim for 2.4 miles, cycle a whopping 112 miles, and then run a marathon to the finish line- all in under 17 hours. The 186-mile
Pembrokeshire Coast Path, part of the only coastal National Park in the country, is where all the action is, so follow in the athletes' footsteps to find little sightseeing gems along the way. You won't be wondering what to do in Pembrokeshire on your next visit here; that's a given.
Narberth Food Festival
The 20th edition of the
Narberth Food Festival will be held on September 22 and 23 this year. Of all the places to visit in Pembrokeshire, this one is by far the most mouth-watering. Carrying on the tradition of the friendliest volunteer-run festival in Wales, this event is a foodie's dream come true. Prepare your taste buds for family picnics and al fresco dining, because the bar and some 50 food stalls will be churning out grub and grog relentlessly. If you're up for a raffle, you're in the right place. After all, no side dish, however yummy, can outshine a generous prize. Expect to see street performers, musicians, children's acts, and interactive walkabout acts, too.
