What was great?
Wonderful setting beside the ruins of Finchall Abbey and the beautiful river. Peacocks and Guinea Fowls wandering freely so you have to be careful with the dog. Lovely dog walk along the river directly from the site into the sites picnic area. Toilets very clean.

What was great?
This site is amazing, you arrive by passing the local prison then an old ammunition dump. At this point you are thinking oh no what have I done. But you a little further, through the barrier you are welcomed by the site owners with the old Abbey in front of you. The site is very well maintained and the toilet blocks are spotless and well equipped for able bodied and disabled. The pitches are a mix of part hard standing and grass. When they say a bit of a slope they mean it on some pitches but they have several that nice and level and provide everything you need to help if you want one of the less level pitches. We used one of the three fully serviced pitches and they are the biggest pitch I have ever had. The surroundings are fantastic, you have the Abbey on site, the river runs around the site and a bridge from the site to riverside and woodland walks. Durham is in walking distance along good paths which are suitable for cycling if you have your bikes. Would defiantly use this site again and have already recommended it to others.

Even better if....
They would like to level some more pitches but because it is a listed site they are not allowed to make many changes.
