Camping at Christmas

Getting away at Christmas can be just the tonic to add a splash of fizz to a time of year that can become a little formulaic...so we've done some research on a selection of the best places to be at Christmas and the New Year and listed the caravan parks, touring grounds and holiday parks nearby these festive hotspots that are open year round. Whether you are looking to indulge in a spot of Christmas shopping in the ancient streets of Oxford, take a celebratory steam railway journey to meet Santa and his elves, or throw yourself headlong into the high-spirits of torch lit processions, there are plenty of options for camping at Christmas across the UK.

Of course, if you want to go north of the border and enjoy a festive season in Scotland, you might want to time your visit with Hogmanay - New Year - when this proud nation of people who really do know how to celebrate, kick up their heels and dance a reel or two, with verses of Auld Lang Syne ringing in the night air . The biggest and wildest Hogmanay celebrations take place in Edinburgh, when the streets are filled with torch lit processions and traditions dating back hundreds of years are celebrated by thousands. But smaller scale (although no less traditional or important) celebrations take place in Comrie and Stonehaven, where the torch processions are taken very seriously indeed!
