Hair bugbear? 5 Day Routine for Campers Who Care

Keeping your hair under control on day one of a five day camping trip shouldn't be too tricky for most of us. But day two, after a night with your head rolling around on a camping mat and pressed up against canvas? Oh, lord, holiday hair. In fact, it's worse that that - it's camping hair. This is likely to be a tad more challenging and by days 3 and 4 things could be getting desperate. So, we've asked our friends at Viva Hair in Exeter for some advice on how to keep our locks looking lovely whilst living au-naturale and they've kindly revealed some of their secrets, which sshhhhhh, we'll share with you right here...

But, hang on, should we care what we look like? I hear an all-earth-motherish-type at the back asking. Isn't camping about letting go of your inhibitions? Hmmmm, well for you maybe. Personally, though, I'd do anything to avoid the basted yeti look that often greets me in the communal mirrors two days in to a holiday under canvas. On-trend it is not!

So, short of asking your hair-dresser along on holiday with you, is there anything you can do to avoid frizz-overload or a grease-flop, whatever your hair's bugbear happens to be?

Here's Viva Hair's advice:

Day 1: Curl it up! If you have natural curls go with it. If your hair is straight curl it before you leave! This prevents your hair from getting really flat! We'd suggest Bedhead On The Rebound for a great natural curl and a light spray of Bedhead Masterpiece for a non-sticky hold.

Day 2: Slept in hair that smells of campfire? Tigi Bedhead After Party is a smoothing odour eliminating serum that is perfect for this! Scrunch into your curls for a fresh look on day 2.

Day 3: The old favourite! Add some dry shampoo into your hair today. Your hair will still have a little bounce in from the curls so spray some dry shampoo into your roots and brush out. Bedhead Oh Bee Hive is a dry shampoo but also adds a little touch of volume!

Day 4: A quick wash & go! Give your hair a wash today with a moisturising shampoo. Give your locks a good old towel dry and spray in some leave in conditioner. Next scrunch in some salt spray and let it dry naturally for a beachy tasselled look!

Day 5: Up! A Plait, a pony tail, a clip or a bun, it's up to you! Don't forget to pack your Masterpiece hairspray to help you secure this look.

Of course, you might find yourself staying on a campsite or at a holiday park blessed with a spa and salon, like Romano Spa at Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park, or have access to steam rooms, saunas or pools like at any one of these Pampered Camping sites nationally.

However, if you find yourself somewhat distant from your usual hair care paraphenalia and routine, these tips should keep even the most wayward of locks under control.
