Wigwam Holidays - the latest glamping giggle

The latest glamping trend places wigwams under the looking glass and Alice wouldn't look out of place in these winsome structures. If you've not seen one, they look a tad like a bee hive and if you've not stayed in one think all of the benefits of camping - the great outdoors, being close to nature, communal living for re-connecting with your near and dear - with warmth, guaranteed dryness and, in some cases tv with freeview (!) thrown in. With these enchanting wooden domes popping up all over the country, some singularly, others in clusters and a few in colonies, we thought it was a about time that Campsite Chatter checked some out...

If it's a good view that makes your day when you first awake, then why not throw open the doors of a wigwam onto the stunning azure vista across the sea towards the Isle of Skye and the Outer Hebrides from Sands Caravan and Camping Park? Situated on the West coast of the Highlands of Scotland, this site offers wigwam holidays with breath-snatchingly fresh air; insulated and heated, you'll be snug and secure at night but sleeping only inches from nature and outstanding natural beauty. Complete with fire-pit and barbeque slab, there's plenty of scope for alfresco, star-lit dining. Oh, and the wigwams are pet friendly, so your pooch can enjoy a spot of glamping too - rrruff!

At Grouse Hill Caravan Park you can enjoy the bustling seaside town of Whitby, some 8 miles from the site, and the traditional delights of English seaside pastimes along the North Yorkshire Coast, before returning to the peaceful haven of your wigwam situated on this tranquil campsite. Grouse Hill is set within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, so it's ideal for walkers, cyclists and promises tight lines for the fishing fraternity with both course and sea fishing nearby. Wake up in comfort and style, looking out onto iconic heather-clad hills - reet luv-leh.

Fancy hic glamping on the edge of a vinyard? Well, head for Secret Valley Wigwams and you could be throwing open the doors of your cosy wigwam onto the sunny vine-clad climes of Provence...errr, I mean Somerset. Set on a 400 acre farm, with freedom granted by the owners to explore, the 12 wooden wigwams available at this site have fabulous views across the Quantock Hills and come complete with a firepit for toasty romantic evenings. So, that's wine tasting by day (pinot noir, rondo, orion, solaris and reichensteiner grapes are grown on site) and wine drinking in the evening...Now that is glamorous camping!

Heading now almost as far South West as you can go in our fair isles, you could trial your wigwam experience at multi-award winning Tehidy Holiday Park - you'll be in safe hands! This small, tranquil site, set in Cornwall's beautiful, wooded Tolskithy Valley provides a peaceful haven from what can be the heave of high-season tourism. With the site's thoughtful facilities for kids - play area, games room and the space to explore the wildlife-rich gardens - the wigwam holidays on offer at Trehidy make ideal family holidays with easy access to Cornwall's vital statistics.
