Galloway Forest Park Camping

Oh, my, this really is a fabulous location for unwinding, un-clogging the senses, re-bonding with the family and finding some much-needed peace and tranquility. Galloway Forest Park camping not only offers access to a huge area of rolling glens, forested hills, trails to explore, fabulous wildlife and picturesque lochs, it is also a fabulous spot for enjoying the dark skies of the West of Scotland, unpolluted by the lights of towns or cities. These camp sites will place you within exhilarating distance of mountain-biking, fabulous walking and opportunities for some great photography... and then, after dark, you can unfurl your mind even further by plunging into the wonder of the solar system.

By day, spot red squirrels and visit the Forest's purposefully built hides and get close to the UK's largest land mammal - the majestic Red Deer. Spot raptors hunting in the forest's canopy and visit the day centres and visitor information centres in Galloway Forest Park to learn more about the environment. Then, after all the excitement and activity, relax, re-fuel and get ready for the night sky show!

Galloway Forest Camping

Here you will find the campsites close enough to the Forest of Galloway Dark Sky Zone to enjoy the dark skies unpolluted by the lights from vehicles, motorways, towns and cities. The park's most popular spot for stargazing is Loch Trool, but the Wigtownshire Astronomical Society also recommends The Machars, the sparsely populated hills and moorland south of the 17th-century market town of Newton Stewart.

Astonishingly, the 300 square miles of tree-covered wilderness in Galloway Forest Park is likely to enable you to see up to 50 times the number of stars that you can spot from a major city. The effect will be breath-taking! Use the 'cycle route' map in each site's indivifual listing, if you are planning to take the bikes with you. And the 'Things to do' tab will enable you to plan your holiday in advance, with over 1000 shops, pubs, restaurants and tourist attractions listed in the vicinity of each site...not too close to these sites, of course!
