Abersoch Regatta

We have found it impossible to leave out Abersoch Regatta from our list of great summer festivals for many reasons. Firstly, you will find in Abersoch's Regatta, the events and atmosphere of a Regatta of old. This is a historical event, the first Abersoch Regatta running in 1881, when the first races both on water under sail and by oar, and along the sand were recorded. The Regatta was a way for the local fisherfolk to show off their incredible skills and knowledge of local waters, when an exciting mix of pride and good natured competition made for a fabulous weekend's entertainment. Over the years the events have accumulated, taking on the flavour of true beach-side entertainment. There are, of course, still many serious sailing races in the bay off Abersoch's pretty village, including rowing races, speed sailing and paddleboard racing. However, there's plenty of fun beach-side too and tonnes to keep everyone in the family engaged with a full week's programme of events that you can dip in and out of, as you wish. Why not try your hand at the sandcastle building competition or visit the 'best dressed beach hut' competition? Take a nostalgic step back and enter the crab catching competition or enter (or watch with glee) the great raft races that take place with many hilarious antics and inevitable sinkings...So, with the week long high summer activities of the Abersoch Regatta, you can see why we have decided to list the camping sites nearby the village and its summer festival - it will make, quite simply, a fabulous spot for a fun summer holiday.

All that said, though, who wouldn't want to spend a week in the area surrounding Abersoch, nestled as it is on the Llyn Peninsular in North Wales, surrounded by beautiful golden sandy beaches, wildlife and fabulous swimming and sailing waters? Those folk who have been coming back to their favourite Abersoch campsite year on year won't thank us for sharing their secret!
