Cornwall is famous for a myriad of wonderful qualities: for its fabulous beaches, its coastal path and its climate, for its accent and dialect, for its impossible place names, its Oggies, muggety and limpet pies (really? Limpets in a pie? Apparently…)

At one time a kingdom in its own right, predating the Roman occupation of the UK, with its legendary kings sitting at the royal citadel of Tintagel, Cornwall and Cornwallians are rightly proud of their county and its history and traditions, steeped as they are in folklore. They are proud of the beautiful geography of their county, proud of their Celtic language some 4,000 years old and of their descendency from an ancient Neolothic race, placing Cornish people apart from the English. Indeed this spirit of independence is still perceptible in many threads running through Cornish culture.

Of course, this difference is what makes Cornwall such a compelling place to visit and one of the reasons that Cornwall was voted Best UK Holiday region 2013 for the 5th consecutive year by the British Travel Awards. But Cornwall is not all ancient history and tangled myth. The county is also a mecca of unlimited, unadulterated FUN and fascination, making it such an ideal venue for family camping holidays.

If you’re planning on a spot of summer Cornwall camping, then kick-starting your holiday with a visit to the county’s regional agricultural show, isn't a bad start if it’s fun you're after. In its 220th year, the traditions of the Royal Cornwall Show really do go back a way but the animal classes, countryside management areas and food hall can be enjoyed alongside a plethora of modern-twist main-ring high-kick shenanigans, some more surprising than others! If you fancy learning to scuba dive on your holidays or brushing up those sub-aqua skills you learnt abroad some years ago, then the Falmouth area of Cornwall and specifically Diving in Cornwall, Porthkerris a little further south, is a perfect venue. With clear waters packed with wild-life and a stunning submerged topography, you can get to know Cornwall beneath the waves before relaxing on the beach or back at your campsite afterwards: a great excuse to kick back and refuel with a beer or two and a BBQ. Steeped in the countryside of balmy South Cornwall, these Cornwall campsites also provide easy access to the Lizard Peninsula Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Of course, one of Cornwall’s great sources of fun, comprising entertainment, competition and style, is its surfing credentials. Cornwall boasts the capital of UK surf in Newquay and its surrounding beaches where old pros and newbies alike don their suits and head for the waves. Kitesurfing and Stand up paddleboarding are equally prolific and no wonder: exhilaration and fun can be had by all! Search these pages for campsites in Cornwall that provide great Surfing holidays in Newquay. Or perhaps its the fabled A frame barrels of Cornwall's north coast you're after?
