Winter Glamping in the UK

0
Votes

If the word "Winter" is synonymous in your mind with keeping cosy, indulging in a hot toddy or two and admiring the patterns made by the frost from within a secure and heat-tight structure, then indulging in a spot of Winter Glamping at one of these UK sites might just be the ticket. You can say yes to bracing winter walks, yes to gazing up at a frosty sky and yes to the freedom and relaxation that camping offers...without losing sensation in your toes, nose or fingers.

In fact, cutching up at one of these winter glamping sites is likely to be really rather idyllic. Open fires, wood burning stoves and a reassuringly weighty quilt to snuggle up in...throw in a peppering of stars and a full moon and we could just be entering the realms of true romance...

Nordic Style Glamping

Scotland Glamping is all the rage but at Comrie Croft Eco Camping in Perthshire, they glamp with a twist on your standard tipi experience. Nod off to the sound of deer barking, owls hooting and, fingers crossed, the soft fall of snow from the branches above - ahhhh!

Set within birch woodland just a couple of minutes walk from Comrie Croft's other campsite facilities, the 5 hand-built Katas have been designed and crafted after the tents traditionally used in Lapland by the Sami people whilst reindeer herding, so rest assured that you'll stay dray and warm during your stay...even if you're lucky enough to experience a snowfall.

Complete with a huge hand-built Alpine style bed, packed with sheeps wool for insulation, these 6 metre diameter structures provide space, comfort and shelter for up to 6 people (if you know each other really well!) in beautiful surroundings.

Infused as they are with warmth from the central wood burning stove, you can throw yourself into what ever the great outdoors has on offer with true abandon, knowing that you'll be returning to your cosy Kata.

December Dorset Glamping?

If you're looking to supplement a winter glamping weekend with some high-level entertainment, then you might want to head to mid-Dorset for a weekend or short break.

Of course, Dorset glamping is going to place you within one of the most beautiful counties of the UK, with plenty of places to visit and foodie hotspots to nosh at...

...there aren't many UK pitches, though, where you'll wake with the ghostly song of the gibbon hanging on the morning air.

Stay at Longthorns Farm near Bere Regis, and you can enjoy a luxurious Shepherds Hut holiday on a site with excellent facilities, within meters of one of the area's most popular visitor attractions: the world famous Monkey World.

The Shepherds Huts at Longsthorns provide indulgent luxury: a wood burner warms each hut, with all firewood included in the price of your stay. You won't be roughing it sleeping on each hut's double bed with memory foam mattress and two pull out single beds, should you be glamping with your family. There's even a mini-oven and kettle for hot toddies last thing and hot chocolate and brioche in the mornings.

Hot news: the site is about to open it's latest addition: a new toilet and shower block, a state of the art build using recycled materials and providing excellent camping facilities.

Shropshire Yurts

For breath-taking panoramic views from the flap of your yurt, you're unlikely to get much more spectacular than the two rather exclusive Offas Dyke Yurts in Shropshire on the Welsh Border.

We are describing this winter glamping option as 'exclusive' - well, here's why. There are two yurts but they come as a single holiday unit, giving you and your family or group exclusive use of the decking and the gardens surrounding them - and unshared enjoyment of the stunning views across the Shropshire plain. One of the yurts provides a living area and the other a bedroom, with space for four adults and two children to sleep between the two.

Don't fancy stepping into the cold to reach the facilities? Well, you don't have to with the private washroom, shower and toilet housed in an adjoining wooden structure.

Opulence is not in short supply here: the raised interior wooden floor, efficient wood burner and beautiful furnishings make this more of a palace than a tent!

Glamping on Hadrian's Wall

If glamping for you is more about ensuring that you have a warm, dry and comfortable space at the end of a long day's hike, then the wooden wigwams and Shieling Log Cabins available at Roman Wall Lodges in Cumbria are likely to fit the bill.

Backpackers flock to Hadrian's Wall all year round and Roman Wall Lodges is ideally placed to serve their needs.

On this campsite site, walkers can take a restful and rejuvenating overnight or longer break amidst their demanding schedule, enjoying the spirit of camping but with the comforts of something more like home!

For higher levels of privacy you might opt to book a Shieling Log Cabin, a larger structure with an integral bathroom. If you want to give those muscles a longer soak at the end of the day, try to book the cabin with a full length bath!
