Cornish camping may have its perks, but clearly not as many as glamping in Cornwall. After all, why would you let packing, carrying and pitching a tent pull you away from the beauty of an idyllic setting, even if only for a few minutes? Come to think of it, why do away with the comforts of modern life simply because you want to sleep under the stars?
Enjoying the splendour of the countryside without compromising on all the luxuries of home is our idea of a relaxing getaway. So, we have a few destinations in mind that are perfect for
glamping in Cornwall. We've looked at all the yurts, tipis, wigwams, pods, circus wagons, geo domes, log cabins, and shepherds' huts brimming with character and style. We've browsed all the gipsy caravans, horseboxes, cottages, safari tents, Airstreams and tree houses. Here's our selection of must-see glamping destinations for the year to come:
1. Outlandish Holidays, Lizard Peninsula
With boltholes straight out of a fairy-tale,
Outlandish Holidays put tents to shame. Sojourn in Tregaminion at the Jack Sparrow House, and let your glamping in Cornwall adventure begin! Sample the local wine, enjoy the beach, go diving at Porthkerris Cove, and explore the Lizard while you're there.
2. Glampotel, Lizard Point
While you're in the area, treat your better half to a blissful sleep at a
Glampotel canvas cottage. It may very well be the world's first Eco-Tourism glamping chain, and certainly the first Cornwall glamping chain. But all you'll care about is the fluffy pillows and the soft mattress you sink in after a hot shower, with a crackling fire as the backdrop.
3. YHA Eden Project, Bodelva
Chill out in a futon bed with a crackling fire in the wood burner and the star-spangled horizon peeping through the door of a bell tent at night. Six of these eco-friendly tents, complete with bean bags, stools, chairs or nightstands are ready to welcome you to Cornwall glamping at its finest. The
YHA Eden Project pitches them from May to late October. Shake off that wayfaring monotony with
Hangloose adventures, or save all your energy for a dash of wine tasting at
Camel Valley Vineyard. After you've built up the courage, round off your luxury camping Cornwall-style experience at Eden with a steam train driving course from
Bodmin & Wenford Railway.
4. Boardmasters, Newquay
If you missed this year's
Boardmasters Festival, it's never too early to hire your shire hut for next year's event. Head over to Trebelsue Farm in Watergate Bay on the big day for a weekend of luxury camping Cornwall has proudly offered for years. The Cloud Nine Boutique Campsite aims to please with its fully outfitted tents, so none of your outdoor skills will be put to the test tonight.
5. Hendra Pods, Newquay
A stone's throw away is Hendra Holiday Park in Newquay, so if you don't make it to the festival, you can enjoy an action-packed holiday at this couple, family and dog-friendly park in Newquay. Indoor swimming, train rides, archery, Segway tours, scuba diving, children's entertainment and many other activities eagerly await the youngsters in your family. But if the pattering of tiny feet isn't on the agenda any time soon, or you're trying to enjoy a couple's getaway, then there's sailing, gig racing, and horse riding fun in the sun to be had. Don't let your weekend of glamping in Cornwall come to an end until you've been to the privately-owned
Lusty Glaze Beach, where you can trip the light fantastic at the Sundowner Session.
