Log Cabin Holidays UK

If you had the time and money to set up self-catering accommodation and weren’t sure what to invest in, glamping or self-catering log cabins would be a good bet as demand for them is high and yet there aren’t that many available log cabin holidays UK. But is staying in a log cabin camping, glamping or self catering? Who cares! Most importantly, it’s comfortable, warm, dry, fun and very, very romantic!

So, why is staying in a log cabin so popular?

For northerners and those of us with our roots in Scandinavia and Eastern Europe, the draw towards a log cabin is in the blood: log cabin construction has its roots in the Bronze Age. Beguilingly simple, refreshingly clean and delightfully cosy, these romantic structures chime nostalgic notes in us, harking back to the childhood narratives of Heidi and Little House on the Prairie. Log cabins are a symbol of our humble origins and in these clean-edged fast-racing times, humble origins can be really rather comforting. Log cabins are what our ancestors built when they sought shelter from the elements, when ingenuity, skill and hard work were all that stood between a family and the perishing cold and we love that about their history.

Now, this is the UK and that means we can’t really promise snow drifts, vast pine forests and rugged, wandering lumberjacks but if you’re looking to book a romantic retreat or a great space to bond with friends, perhaps you should consider log cabin holidays UK style?

Why not head to Somerset, and stay at Alpine Grove Touring Park offering self-catering log cabin accommodation? Tranquil and immersed in a wealth of wildlife, these log cabins are built in the woods, as all log cabins should really be, surrounded by gambolling rabbits, pheasants, buzzards and woodpeckers. If you’re really still and quiet, you might even catch a glimpse of a grazing Roe Deer in the dappled sunlight. It’s not difficult to understand why this site has been awarded the coveted David Bellamy Gold Award for Conservation. Will you be ‘ruffing it’? Not likely: there’s an outdoor heated swimming pool on site, so pack your togs!

Situated closer to The Midlands? You could stay in the rustic, spacious log cabin at award winning Teversal Camping And Caravanning Club Site. Set in six acres of glorious countryside, this site is a walkers’ and cyclists’ heaven as the park has direct access to the Teversal Trails and miles of paths following the former colliery railway lines.

If it’s stunning mountain views you are looking for, with snow-peaks in winter to really transport you back in time in your cosy log cabin, then you might want to head for Wales to Snowdonia and stay at Garthyfog Log Cabin Camping & Caravan Site. You’ll need your rest after the array of outdoor adventures on offer in this area: hill walking, pony trekking, water sports, mountain biking, climbing – those cosy log cabin bedrooms are going to be welcome by the end of each day.

If it’s luxury you are after then you could stay in one of the log cabins on offer at Herston Yards Farm And Mongolian Yurts Romantic, spacious and well equipped, these log cabins are set within the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset, a peninsula bounded on almost all sides by water, conveying a wonderful ‘island’ feeling of separation and freedom.

And last but, no, by no means least you could opt to holiday at The Bivouac near Ripon in beautifully wild North Yorkshire. And it will be a holiday like no other you have ever taken. These wonderfully charismatic rustic, hand-crafted shacks are built within a hilltop woodland using traditional round wood timber framing techniques. The views from the hilltop over the surrounding valleys and moorland are breath-taking and the vintage, shabby-chic interiors offer a romantic bygone experience. I want to live there!
