Top 7 UK Glamping Pitches

My, my, folk are getting increasingly inventive with the glamping options they are tempting us with. Glamping in the UK now embraces pods, buses, domes and converted vehicles of every description: anything goes!

Quirky, romantic and often surprisingly luxurious, you certainly won't be rummaging through your memory looking back on one of these holidays. Here are the pitches that have tickled us recently at Campsite Chatter.

If one morning you woke up and found that, fortuitously, the end of the rainbow was in fact located in your very garden, and that there was indeed a pot of gold buried beneath, which of these unusual pitches would you opt for?

Glamping in Wales

Entirely unique - yes, that's the only one in the world - The Eye-PodTM is new to this award-winning campsite in North Wales, closeby one of the country's best loved beaches at Abersoch.

Cutch up inside this incredibly well-appointed, stylishly designed spherical unit and, after dark, star-gaze through the domed roof.

Relaxing here after immersion in the breath-taking beauty of Abersoch beach could well be nearing the mark of a 'perfect day'.

Take to the Trees!

If you've always held a secret fantasy for living amongst the trees then glamping in a tree house, with access via rope ladders and bridges will get your swinging.

The Living Room Tree House experience, set on Bryn Meurif Farm in the Welsh Mountains, offers 5 uniquely designed tree houses set in a secret woodland, with kitchens, decks, woodburning stoves, showers, even hot tubs.

Set in beautiful woodland, with fast flowing streams and birdsong a-plenty, these idiosyncratic structures offer you the chance to experience life in the canopy.

Eat your heart out, Tarzan.

Glamping in Scotland, Bilbo-style

Now, we're casting no aspersions about the height of campers these days, but Hobbit Homes and other Hobbit-related accommodation is growing in popularity across our camping nation and Scotland seems to be embracing the trend as much as any region.

If you have a wistful fancy for a week or so in your very own Bag-End, then heading to a Hobbit Home could be the answer.

Set in stunning Highland surroundings, within the mystique of Loch Ness, these hand-built Hobbit Houses are set in a wooded glade that any occupant of the Shire would be happy to call home.

Light and airy, with WiFi, mains power and access to a modern toilet and shower block, the site offers fabulous access to the wilderness and beauty of the Highlands.

Don't forget to pack your pewter ale jug and hairy prosthetic feet

Romany Romance

We know it's not new-fangled but for romance (and for winning brownie points, for the guys reading this), booking a stay in a restored Gypsy caravan, steeped in a Somerset Orchard, must be getting close to perfection.

Forget the Tardis for time travel; within 24 hours of arriving here you'll have shed your stress and be sampling a bygone life of boiling kettles over open campfires, stoking stoves and snuggling down under feather eiderdowns after dark.

This beautifully restored bow-top open-lot wagon is situated at the end of a no-through country lane, nestled in amongst the trees of an old cider orchard. Perfick.

This caravan has history - it once starred in the TV series of Enid Blyton's Famous Five - and with the Romany interior intact it won't take much imagination for you to feel like king and queen of the open road.

Glamping in Surrey

And, for something entirely different with lashings of ingenuity and really setting the trend for glamping UK, why not embrace the simple life and stay in this vintage 1975 Bedford TK Lorry? Retired from equine transport, this horse trailer has been lovingly converted and refurbished, pitching up in its final resting place just outside of the beautiful village of Chiddingfold in Surrey.

'Ges'from My Cool Holiday, set in the Surrey countryside,
'Ges' at My Cool Holiday
Known as 'Ges', this converted horse-box has been renovated in a fun retro-style - the designer's successful attempt to take you back in time to a place where things were simpler and peace was tangible.

Complete with a kingsize cabin bed, wood burning stove, cooking facilities, sofa and duvets, this is unusual camping without scrimping on the glamour.

'Ges' even comes with 'Baby Ges' alongside: a 1970's horse trailer renovated to provide a unique answer to hot showers.

Bus-tastic

Continuing with our theme of all-things-conversion, buses have been getting a make-over too and this one is famous already. Featured on the Christmas edition of George Clarke's Amazing Spaces, 'The Big Green Bus' can name-drop as well as any b-rated celeb.

Bought on ebay by its clever carpenter-owner, bus 2464 first entered service in 1982 and served almost 30 years on the streets of Coventry, Birmingham and Hull.

The Big Green Bus is now enjoying its retirement at The Sussex House Party, a glamping site in East Sussex, having undergone a stunning face-lift.

Kitted out with kitchen, lounge and upstairs bedrooms, this will be one of the more memorable places you have chosen to lay your head.

Stylish Cabin Holiday

It's all about shape, dimension and style in this beautiful cabin set in the private wooded glades of Blackberry Wood campsite in Sussex.

The Curvy Cabin is definitely for campers who like their comforts. With a sleek designer kitchen, posh bathroom and both a double and bunk beds, you can enjoy all the fun of the outdoors on this beautiful site, but with a wood burning stove to warm your toes at night.

If you like to stay in unusual surroundings then you might have to return to this site as they also the 'Holicopter' for hire - a converted 1965 Wessex Search and Rescue helicopter.

If you're feeling patriotic, there's even a shiny, red, converted double-decker bus for rent!

So, given that you've just dug up that pot of gold, which of these glamping holidays UK would you choose?
