Welcome to Balinoe Campsite Tiree

About us

Wild Diamond Watersports, based on Tiree, specialises in providing instruction and hire for windsurfing, kitesurfing and stand up paddleboarding. Additionally we provide water sports retail advice for clients who wish to shop with us for their equipment. We also hire surfboards, body boards & sandyachts as alternative activities. More recently we have opened a campsite on Tiree to cater for all campers who may wish to visit the island. Wild Diamond is owned and managed by Willy & Kirsty MacLean. Between the two of them they have 25 years teaching experience in adrenaline watersports!

Camp Site

Tents, campervans and towed caravans are all welcome.

Our Centre

Our centre headquarters are based in the township of Cornaig in the northwest of the Island. This includes our shop, equipment hire centre and windsurfing school as well as our house and office. For all contact our shop and office should be treated as our main place of business since it is only during the summer that the windsurfing school is open on a daily basis. The rest of our activities are roving and accordingly the shop and office are our primary meeting place each morning for activities. We are open here 9-11am during the Spring and Autumn and daily 9-5 Monday – Saturday during July and August.

Cornaig is where Loch Bhasapol (our primary waterbase) is located. The Loch has flat, shallow, fresh water and a sandy bottom with steady winds allowing windsurfing skills to be quickly developed, whether sailing by yourself, or under instruction from us. This is the perfect location to windsurf and to teach windsurfing from since it puts our instructors right next to our students in a shallow, easy to sail location that maximizes our productivity and your hassle free time on the water.

Windsurfing

Wild Diamond offer RYA courses (Start windsurfing, intermediate and advanced courses) and non RYA courses for beginners to experts. Windsurfing for all levels (except waves) is delivered in two hour blocks allowing for maximum progress without tiring student out too much in any one sitting.
Tiree is the perfect destination for ALL levels of windsurfing and home to the annual windsurfing competition the Tiree Wave Classic.
Beginners and Intermediates we recommend to visit us at any stage through our season. All instruction for this level of sailor is based at Loch Bhasapol in the Township of Cornaig.
Advanced and Wave Sailors we recommend to visit us during March, April, May, June, September and October which are Tiree’s windier months. This instruction can be based at Loch Bhasapol or at any of Tiree’s fantastic beach venues, depending on suitable conditions.
Our centre stocks a range of equipment including Simmer Style, Fanatic, Tabou and Naish which suits all ages and abilities. Whatever your level the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and our instructors will build a personal sailing development plan around you to allow you to accomplish your windsurfing ambitions whilst staying on Tiree.
Our advanced setup is run from the back of a large mobile box trailer and this in turn allows us to access any beach on the island within twenty minutes of making the decision to sail. The beauty of it is that on arrival all you have to do is throw your boom on your sail, connect your board and go! Oh yeah… and put your wetsuit on! It can be sunny but it isn’t Hawaii!
The advantage of this is made even more obvious when the conditions change and you have to change equipment to suit. five minutes later you are effectively de-rigged and re-rigged and good to go again on the correct equipment. All of the hassle is removed from the process.
Our inland windsurfing base at Loch Bhaspol allows us to work from the waters edge on one of the best beginner / intermediate / advanced windsurfing lakes in Europe. The loch has a sandy bottom and is shallow for two hundred metres or so from the centre building. It is the windiest spot on the island with any wind direction with south in it and is warm enough to sail in a shorty wetsuit in the summer!
All of our equipment is stored rigged in a shed buy the waters edge and ready to go at a moments notice. Our sessions in the summer are very popular and regularly book out. Booking in advance is strongly advised to avoid disappointment throughout July and August.

Shop

The Wild Diamond shop is Tiree’s only watersports and surf shop. We stock a range of hardware and clothing for windsurfing, kitesurfing and surfing. We are the best stocked surf shop in the Hebrides! Please feel to come and browse, or contact us in advance to order something specific….
Currently we stock a full range of wetsuits from O’Neill, ranging from toddler to adult sizes. Additionally we also have our own Wild Diamond Tiree branded range of hoodies and t-shirts as well as sunglasses, flip flops and much more.
