What was great?
We had previously visited the Bath Marina campsite in October and realised that it would be a good campsite to use when visiting the Bath Christmas Market in December. The Campsite is easily accessible from the A4 and it’s located along side the River Avon. This is a fantastic site for visiting Bath and it’s an open all year round site. You have to accept that it is an urban campsite situated on the outskirts of a city. There is some minor background noise from trains and traffic, but not enough to keep you awake at night. The spacious concrete hard standing pitches are ideal for all weather camping. There is no fixed position for the caravan/motor home on the pitch (as per the draconian Caravan club sites); you can pitch in any position to suit yourself. The electric power points have a light on the top and also have a digital TV aerial socket on them providing freeview television. The site is clean, very well maintained with good heated toilet/showers, laundry and wash up facilities, Over sixties get an age concession. The customer service was excellent. You can access the fascinating City of Bath using the bus (route 21) every quarter of an hour from the Newbridge Park and Ride (note: height restriction barriers on the car park) a short walk opposite the campsite (£2. 50 return on Saturdays or £3.20 weekdays). The bus ride took only fifteen minutes and dropped us at Westgate Buildings in the city centre. You can walk or cycle into Bath using the river path or the Sustrans Bristol/Bath cycle way from the site. The City is famous for its Georgian architecture and as a water spa. We wandered around the many small shops in the side streets, back alleys and small shopping arcades. Bath is a city that buzzes with many shoppers, tourists and some very talented buskers There is a recreation ground alongside the site with a large area fenced off for a kids playground and a large grassed area that is used for exercising dogs. Travelling towards towards Bath there is a large children’s playground, which is part of Victoria Park. Local pubs nearby give an opportunity to eat out. Go right on the river walk to the nearby Boathouse pub that has a decent restaurant menu or go left on the river walk for about ten minutes, and by the lock on the river, is the Dolphin a more traditional pub with restaurant. Loads of cafés and restaurants in the City centre of course.
