What was great?
I've stayed at Foxholes many times over the years, always having a great time whenever there. The site itself is in a great location at the high end of Bishop's Castle, with fabulous views over the Long Mynd and surrounding countryside. The site is quite informal, with a large tent field and separate touring field, though there is no problem pitching a tent next to a caravan on the touring field if you're in a mixed group. There are no formal hardstanding pitches - everything is on grass, which can be quite sloped in places (being in the top of a hill!). The ground is pretty well drained due to this fact though! The toilets and shower block are very clean, and there is a new washing up block with a communal fridge and freezer for anyone who needs it. The site is very eco-biased, so no electric hookups I'm afraid, but we managed perfectly well in the caravan just using gas and 12v over the bank holiday weekend. The vicinity of the village has to be the main plus point though. There is a pleasant public footpath from the site that takes you there, where you'll find 6 pubs (2 of which are breweries), the Ganges Indian restaurant (lovely!), a chippie, a Chinese takeaway, a Co-Op (open 'til 10pm) and Kirsty's Cafe for a decent breakfast! Check out the lovely beer garden of The Castle Hotel, giving great views south towards Clun. Overall, a great site, and a credit to owners Chris and Wendy.
