Stay in a beautiful, fully restored, gypsy bow top open lot wagon in rural Somerset and sample a lifestyle almost lost to the modern world.
Tucked away in the tranquillity of the beautiful Somerset countryside, at the end of a no-through lane, you will find your gypsy caravan with its beautiful Romany interior nestled in the lush surroundings of an old cider apple orchard. This is so much more than a holiday cottage………Sit on the caravan steps in the evening savouring your break while watching the embers of the fire fade with the end of the day. Enjoy the timeless peace of the surroundings or visit some of the many fascinating, beautiful and historic places this part of Somerset has to offer. It’s perfect for couples who want a romantic break together or families looking for an exclusive ‘cool camping’ getaway.
Our ponies, donkey, chickens, sheep, pigs, and cat will give you a warm welcome!
You will sleep in a gypsy caravan (once used in the TV series of Enid Blyton’s Famous Five) pulled on to an old cider apple orchard . The bow top sleeps two in a cosy traditional extending double bed. You need to be reasonably agile to climb in!
Traditionally cooking and washing was done outside. There is an open fire for cooking but nearby there is a heated caravan, with fridge, gas cooker and seating for rainy days.
What do you get?
Bed linen is provided as are all utensils, crockery and cutlery. Toilet facilities are catered for with an environmentally friendly compost loo, it sounds primitive but is, in fact, quite civilised. It saves water and avoids the pollution of chemical toilets and WCs. There is hot running water and a shower hidden in a traditional shepherd’s hut.
James and Emily rear their own chickens, sheep and pigs. Sausages, bacon and eggs are available to buy from them on arrival or pre-order in advance.
What’s down the road?
There is a pub The Castlebrook Inn with a small shop in the village about a 20 minute brisk walk away. This is an unspoilt traditional pub, selling an excellent range of local ales, cider and home made food. Here, you will find good company in an old country inn.
The nearest general shops are in the small towns of Somerton and Street, both are about three miles away and each with a supermarket, butchers and other basics. Glastonbury with all its mysticism and Tor is only 6 miles away.
We do not guarantee the weather or supply sunshine on demand. Your stay may be sunny and warm or soggy and cold, either way we hope that all our visitors can leave refreshed, relaxed and revitalised.
How much is it?
Based on two people staying the cost is £150 for two nights and an additional £75 per extra night. Discounts are available for more than 4 nights stay. Weekends are £175 for two nights (Friday and Saturday) and bank holidays carry a small extra charge. Single night stays are available on certain dates by arrangement at a cost of £90 per night.

Younger ones can sleep in the wagon with you in the traditional manner, cosily tucked up under the main bed (there is plenty of room for 1) but older children would need to sleep in the caravan used for ‘rainy days’ or bring a tent. The cost for children or additional adults is £10 per person per night. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate dogs.
The area and local events:
Somerset is a land of Kings such as Arthur and Alfred. Cradle of Christianity in Britain, stronghold of Alfred the Great and scene of bloody Civil War battles.
Famed for cider making and cider drinking, there are numerous cider farms, each with their own unique brew. Somerset’s cider traditions led to the birth to the Wurzels.
The mystical town of Glastonbury is close by with its world famous Tor, Abbey ruins and unique hippy culture.
Wells, a few miles further on, is Englands smallest city. It’s worth a visit to see its magnificent Cathedral, Bishops Palace and thriving twice weekly farmers market.
All around are the enigmatic and magical Somerset levels from which rise the Polden and Mendip hills to the north and the Quantocks and Blackdown Hills to the west.
Whether on foot, by bicycle or car there is much to do, places to visit and countryside to enjoy.
