Welcome to Housedean Farm Campsite

Housedean Farm Campsite is located on a working farm, within the South Downs National Park between Lewes and Brighton in East Sussex.

The campsite is a great base from which to explore the National Park and is easily accessible by bus from Brighton and Lewes. Click here for details on getting to the campsite.

The farm and campsite are also located directly on the South Downs Way so we are perfectly located for walkers and cyclists.

All of our pitches are spacious and have wonderful views of the South Downs and we pride ourselves on the laid-back atmosphere allowing campers to relax while enjoying a campfire and admiring the views.

While we offer a traditional, basic camping experience, we want you to be comfortable throughout your stay and therefore provide modern facilities with rustic open air hot showers.

THE CAMPSITE

Pitches

The campsite contains 25 spacious pitches, each of which are large enough for several tents, so that groups and families can pitch together as they wish.

Pitches are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. If you would like a specific pitch, let us know when you book and we will do our best. Please note that some pitches are further from the facilities than others (maximum 200m).

New for 2013, we have 2 bell tents available to stay in. They are fully erected for you and can comfortably sleep 6 people on double beds. Please click here for further details.

Facilities

We have modern camping facilities on-site that include: 4 flushing loos, 2 washing up basins and 3 hot showers in wooden enclosures (one of which is open-air). Taking a hot shower outdoors is surely one of life’s most simple pleasures! We aim to keep our facilities scrupulously clean at all times.

Campfires

Each of our pitches has a designated fire pit. We encourage their use as we believe camping is all about having a roaring campfire and we can supply logs throughout your stay.

Notes To Campers

We are firm believers that groups of friends, young people, old people and families can all camp in the same field without any problems! To ensure this is the case please read the following ‘Notes to Campers’:

NO electronic or plug-in music. We do however welcome unplugged acoustic music around the campfire (although again, please be aware of your neighbours).The campsite is located on a busy working farm so please do not allow children (or adults) to stray outside the camping field boundaries.

Please try to keep noise to a minimum at all times but especially between the hours of 11pm and 8 am.Please be aware, when driving in and out of the site, that there could be farm machinery in use around the farm.

We can happily accommodate dogs and horses but only by prior arrangement. All dogs on site MUST be kept on a lead at all times and immediately cleared up after.

There is a strict 5mph speed limit within the farm and camping field.

Any campers not adhering to any of the above rules may be asked to leave the site.

FAQs

Do you allow campervans?
We are happy to accept small campervans, although please note we don’t have any electric hook up. We sadly are unable to accommodate motorhomes or caravans.

Do you allow dogs?
Dogs are allowed on the site as long as they are kept on a lead at all times and you clear up after them.

Do you accept large groups of people?
Definitely! We are pleased to accommodate large groups of friends or families. Just specify when booking so we can make sure you are all pitched together.

Do you accept same sex groups/teenagers/stag/hen parties?
We don’t rule anyone out as long as they accept the site rules (click here to see Notes to Campers).

Is it possible to hire out the whole campsite?
This depends how many of you there are. Please contact us if you are looking to hire the whole campsite.

What time can we arrive/have to leave by?
You can arrive anytime from midday onwards (if you need to arrive earlier, let us know and we will do our best). We prefer everyone to arrive before 8pm, but please let us know if it will be later than this. Please vacate your pitches by 11am on the day of departure.

Where is the nearest bus stop and train station?
The nearest bus stop is directly outside the farm and buses run regularly to and from Lewes and Brighton. The nearest train station is Falmer, approximately 1.5 miles away.

Can we park the car next to the pitch?
Yes, you can park next to your tent.

Bell Tents

We have 2 bell tents available for hire for those that want a more luxurious camping experience.

One tent is provided unfurnished so you can bring your own equipment from home.

The other is provided furnished with:1 double and 2 single beds (NB. Please ensure you bring your own bedding – sheets, pillows etc) , a low table, 2 bean bags, a wind up lantern and a dutch oven for cooking over the campfire (N.B. you will need to bring your own cooking utensils). Please see the Prices & Booking page for further details.

The bell tents are 5m in diameter and can comfortably sleep 6 people although you are welcome to squeeze more people in if you like, just let us know when booking.

* Each bell tent pitch has a fire pit and stunning views of the South Downs *

* Our bell tents are traditional and high quality, with a wooden pole in the centre and sides that can be rolled up during the day for ventilation*

* Please note that the toilets and showers are located approximately 200m, although there is a tap for drinking water and a washing up area close by *

There is a 2 night minimum stay in our bell tents at weekends (Friday and Saturday) and 3 nights on bank holiday weekends. We ask for a 50% deposit on booking and the remaining 50% 4 weeks prior to your holiday.

Sat Nav

The postcode for Sat Navs is BN7 3JW.
Please be aware that this may take you to the top of a slip road that runs parallel with the A27. Housedean Farm Campsite is located at the opposite end (east) of this slip road.

Arriving from the West

When heading East on the A27, pass the University of Sussex on the left and the American Express Football Stadium on the right. Follow the A27 for a further 1 mile. Upon emerging from a tunnel of trees you will soon see a bridge crossing the A27. Turn left immediately after the bridge into the layby and you will see Housedean Farm in front of you.

Arriving from the East

When heading West on the A27, follow signs to Brighton. After passing the Ashcombe/Kingston roundabout, you will soon see the Newmarket Inn on the left. After a further 0.5 miles, before the bridge over the A27, turn left into the layby (signposted Housedean Farm). Go over the bridge and follow the signs to the farm.
