Welcome to L S A S Sunnyside Naturist Club

Enjoy Naturism and visit the ‘Best UK City’ at Liverpool Sun and Air

If you are looking to combine some relaxing Naturism with a great city break there is an idyllic combination that may be much closer to home than you had realised.

Our ‘Sunnyside’ site is conveniently located just a mile from M62 J6 in the countryside 9 miles to the east of the city centre. Everyone that visits the 11 acre site, first time visitors and long standing members alike, enthuses over the peaceful, beautiful and natural setting. This oasis of calm, relaxation and Naturist recreation is an ideal place to take a camping break without needing to travel very far.

It’s also an excellent base from which to visit the vibrant city that was voted as ‘Best UK City’ and also the UK’s ‘Friendliest City’. Liverpool has quite rightly more than justified its selection as ‘European Capital of Culture’ a few years ago. The cultural strengths are well known from the world of entertainment and sport, but they are equally impressive in many other ways as well. Liverpool is great for a ‘day out’ but also justifies a much longer stay if you want to explore all that one of the world’s major maritime cities has to offer

There are many international standard museums (all free), the historic waterfront and river trips as well as some great parks and coastline such as Crosby and Formby to visit. Oh and “if you want a cathedral, we’ve got one to spare”. You will definitely want to come back again.

The city is best visited by using the nearby park and ride at Whiston, where the regular trains soon deliver you to Lime Street, right in the centre of the city. From there, all of the city’s attractions, including the shops, are within a half mile walk. And I haven’t even mentioned the delightful Wirral and Chester that are within an hours drive.

After taking all, or even just a tiny bit, of this in, you can return to Sunnyside to relax. As well as the lovely grounds, a mixture of flower beds and nature, there are some excellent facilities. There are level camping pitches with electric hook-up, most are a mixture of firm standing and grass that can accommodate motorhomes, caravans and tents. Sorry, there is no rentable accommodation.

The large clubhouse includes a full kitchen which can be used by visitors and lovely showers, where there is a large wall mural by Tom Murphy (the Hillsborough Memorial artist). The spa room includes a large sauna and Jacuzzi and there are table tennis and pool tables. Outside you can play miniten, petanque and shuffleboard and on warm days there is the large outdoor swimming pool. Families will find the grounds both safe and fun, with a playground and a children’s room available.

Visitors are encouraged to join the members in all social activities, the highlight of which is the 80th Birthday celebrations over August Bank Holiday weekend. There is a full social programme throughout the winter and many visitors have returned to join in the New Years Eve and Burns Supper parties in particular.

Visiting LSAS

Whether for a day visit, an overnight stop, long weekend or holiday stay we always extend a warm welcome to visitors. It's nice to meet new people and many of our members first came to the club as visitors themselves. For a modest charge visitors can enjoy all the same amenities that are available to our members. We have a locker room where day visitors can leave their clothes and we have areas of the grounds reserved for touring caravans and tents.

The area marked 'C' on this aerial photograph is for touring vans and is part hard standing and part grassed. It is accessed by a good tarmac surfaced roadway allowing the hard standings to be used at any time of the year. There are electric hook-up points and drinking water taps close by. A chemical toilet disposal point is available to the rear of our clubhouse (eco fluid please, be nice to our septic tank).
The area marked 'T' is the camping area which is well sheltered by banks and trees and is adjacent to our large swimming pool. Although there is no roadway, cars can be driven to the area in dry weather. Once again there are electric hook-up and water points provided.

We are not a commercial site and there is no full time site warden so it is essential to book visits in advance. Please give us a little notice so that arrangements can be made to greet you, show you the ropes and provide any information or assistance that might be needed.

We always encourage visitors to join in our sauna/spa sessions on a Friday evening and take part in our socials, discos, barbecues etc. If you'd like to check out our social program take a look at our 'What's On' page. Unfortunately for reasons of hygiene we cannot accommodate pet animals.

How do I join your club?

The purpose of the club is to provide a safe environment where people can enjoy nudity amongst like-minded company. The club has occupied its present site since 1936 and we want as many people as possible to benefit from the work of generations of members that has made the club what it is today. Therefore we are always open to new members.

Who can become a member?

Any person aged 18 or over with a genuine interest in practising naturism is welcome to apply for membership. The club is particularly suited to adult couples and families with children.

What's the cost of membership?

The current (2012/13) annual membership fee is £98 per person with an additional admin fee of £2. Therefore the cost for a single person is £100 and for a couple or family £198 (only one admin fee is charged). There is no charge whatsoever for children attending the club with their parents, grandparents or guardians. There is a one-off joining fee of £20 per person, couple or family.

Are there any hidden costs?

No, the membership fee covers the use of ALL amenities.

Do you have a bar?

No, members bring their own booze with them.

I see lots of caravans and chalets, what's the score?

These belong to our members who rent the plot that they stand on for an annual fee (currently £150). The plots do change hands at intervals and there is a waiting list of members wanting a 'site'. It is usual for a new 'site holder' to purchase the structure on the site from its previous owner for a reasonable price that is set by our committee. When sites are allocated, priority is given to members who help with the operation and upkeep of the club.

Do you have accommodation for hire?

Sorry, no. We do however have plenty of space for touring caravans and tents.

OK sounds good, how do I proceed?

First of all contact us and arrange a trial visit, this costs nothing. Further day visits cost £4 per person but if you decide you want to join we'll ask you to complete a simple application form and to pay a £20 joining fee which then covers all further visits before your membership application is processed. We require prospective members to make a minimum of three visits so we can get to know each other and during at least one visit you must practice naturism. Don't worry, this doesn't mean we expect people to go naked outdoors in the middle of winter, we have a sauna and jaccuzi evening every Friday!
That's about it, you then pay the membership subs (or a part thereof if it's later in our membership year) and after a one year probationary period you become a full member with a share in the club and the same rights as someone who's been a member since ... well a very long time.

The most important thing to realise about a club like ours is that it can be whatever you want to make of it. We welcome people who simply want a safe and convenient place to sunbathe in the nude on a nice summers day. We also welcome those who want to become fully involved in the social life of our community. We believe that we have something very special to offer which can only be appreciated if you come to visit us. We look forward to meeting you in the near future.

FAQs

The way in which naturism is often presented by the media has given rise to many misconceptions. Here we will try to provide answers to some of the questions that people enquiring about our club often ask us.

Q. Do you always have to be naked at your club?
A. No way! If the weather and other circumstances permit then members and visitors are expected to be stripped (costumes are not allowed in the pool, spa or sauna) otherwise you wear whatever you wish in order to be comfortable. Children are never pressured to strip but usually love the freedom to play and swim naked.

Q. I know naturism is about nudity but do you also have a 'back to nature' philosophy?
A. Being outdoor types most naturists probably have more respect for their environment than the average person but we also enjoy the comforts and conveniences of modern life as much as everybody else.

Q. When is your club open?
A. We never close! Members have access to the club and it's facilities at all times. The only exceptions are the sauna (there's a regular session every Friday evening) or the spa if safety related maintenance work is required.

Q. Are naturist clubs just a front for 'swingers'?
A. No. Almost all clubs pride themselves on being family clubs and we have members today whose parents, children and grandchildren have all been with the club in their time. It's possible you may find swingers engaging in their activities in the dunes area of some beaches associated with naturism but any overt sexual behaviour at a club is a definite no-no.

Q. Should I be worried about my body shape?
A. No. Naturists come in all shapes and sizes, you'll be judged by who you are not how you look.

Q. We've been told that members of clubs are expected to do work for the club. We'll do what we can but we have jobs and kids and are pretty busy. Is this a problem?

A. No. The club is owned and run by the members and we do most of the work ourselves but we make allowances for individual circumstances. We have a work weekend in the spring and another in the autumn and we ask everybody to make an effort to help then but otherwise it's 'do whatever you're able to'.

Q. I see that members have caravans or cabins. How do I get one?
A. The club rents a 'site' to the member and they locate a caravan or cabin on it. When a member gets a site they usually buy the caravan or cabin from the previous site holder. Members who contribute to the life of the club are given preference when a site becomes available and prices for caravans/cabins are set by the club at a level that prevents good members from being priced out of the market.

Q. Do you have accommodation for hire?
A. Sorry no, but we have plenty of space for touring caravans and tents. This space is available not only to our members but also to visitors who often stay for just one night or for a holiday of a week or more.

Q. Asked by men. I'd like to try naturism but I'm afraid I might get aroused, does this happen?
A. Rarely! Believe it or not but few men find the sight of women who are unselfconsciously nude to be sexually stimulating. Naturists are never very far away from a towel (used to sit on for reasons of hygiene) so in extremis you can always hide your embarrassment!

Q. Asked by women. Can I wear bottoms when I'm having my period?
A. Yes, of course.

Directions

Finding our site could hardly be easier. From M62 junction 6 take the A5080 signposted to Cronton (if approaching from the east on the M62 it is the first turning at the roundabout). In about 3/4 of a mile turn left into Fox's Bank Lane. Drive approximately 1/4 of a mile and you will pass 'Woodlands Bluebell Farm' on the right and in a short distance you will come to another entrance on the right with a pair of large gates set a short way back from the road in a block built wall. You're now at LSAS.
