Welcome to Llwyn Celyn Bach

The campsite being on farmland is a more traditional basic style campsite, it works on a ''find your own pitch'' basis, there are no specific numbered pitches.

Snowdon can be walked straight from camp. The campsite boasts an amazing view of the North west face of Snowdon and many of the surrounding mountains.

We are generally suitable for any respectful outdoor type, not wanting 5 star facilities or a clubhouse, we just provide basic campsite facilities, easy access to Snowdon and a panoramic view!

We welcome D of E groups, scout/guide groups, and don't mind you hugging the radiator in the drying room! Or putting your wet boots on it. Our OS number is SH573595. Especially for D of E groups we have held the price at £4 again for another year.

Also a popular finishing place for 3 peakers.

During the main season reception will be open from 8am onwards, usually until about 11pm.
As we are a working farm, reception may sometimes be closed during the day. You are welcome to just find a pitch and call back at the reception during the afternoon or evening to pay and collect a ticket. We will always be available for advice on 07877376423 or 07775812054 or in an emergency call at the cottage on the corner by the Youth Hostel.

All the facilities are easy to find. Toilets and showers are in the yard by the reception. Drinking water is available on both the house wall and on the new shower block.

Background Info

Set 600 feet above sea level the site has panoramic views of Snowdon, surrounding mountains and Llyn Padarn. You can see the train ascend to the top from the site, weather permitting, of course!

The campsite has been improved in the early 2000's, from what used to be just a toilet and a cold tap, into a more camper friendly site. We have added toilets and showers, hot and cold wash facilities, a drying room, and a small kitchen area with microwave, fridge and freezer. There are also electric points for phone charging, hairdrying, blowing up air beds etc.

Llwyn Celyn Bach is just on the border of the Snowdonia National Park, it is at the foot of Snowdon, making it an ideal base camp for walking Snowdon and the surrounding mountains. Once here you will not need to drive to access 2 of the Snowdon walking routes, they will be right on your doorstep. As well as quieter mountain and moorland walks, avoiding the crowds on Snowdon.

The campsite is accessed via Llanberis village centre itself. Llanberis is the most facilitated village at the base Snowdon giving freedom and choice of pubs and places to eat. Being only half a mile down the road, it's just a 5 minute walk away from the main village centre, ideally sited for exploring this ever popular town. Small word of warning though, it is quite a steep hill back up!

We are situated in one of the more rugged, yet beautiful areas of Wales. With miles of freedom at our doorstep, or rather gateway, you can choose to explore the mountains and moors or go for the plentiful tourist attractions, which are numerous and varied in theme throughout the area. More on these on the ''The Area'' page.

It is part of a mountain farm, Hafod Lydan, which is in the Snowdonia National Park, mainly farming Welsh Mountain sheep, a few rare breed sheep and mixed breed beef cattle. We also have free range hens ducks geese and turkeys. Free range pigs, and sometimes piglets to see. The sheep graze on Moel Eilio, which can be walked straight from camp, the pigs are kept outdoors but not near the campfield. If you would like to see them just ask. If you do feed or touch the animals that are in the garden area make sure you wash your hands with soap and water afterwards. Thankyou.

You are welcome to explore all around the upper farmland, including the lake, and the surrounding area.

Facilities

We aim to provide a decent ''basecamp'' for the outdoor enthusiast, offering showers, toilets and drying facilities.

The main campsite facilities are at the cottage near reception and are easily accessible from all pitches on the site, the ''Top'' and ''Lower'' field being more convienient for the showers and drying rooms.

Toilets and showers

Located at main reception - we aim to keep our facilities as clean as possible if there is a problem with anything please let us know immediately.

Centrally heated shower and toilet room. With shaver point in gents.

Showers take a 50p coin, fixed temperature, last 5 minutes.

New shower block with disabled toilet and shower, all new showers take £1 coin

(Heating is only on in the colder months, or during cold and wet spells in summer.)

Drying room

Located at main reception, equipped with tumble dryer, this room is heated and has clothes airers and hooks for drying wet over clothes. Small kitchen type area with microwave, fridge and freezer, and electric point for charging phones, blowing up air beds, hairdryer etc.

Kitchen sink for washing dishes, pots and pans.

Large sink for washing boots or over clothes.

Information on walks in the area and other tourist attractions.

Available to buy on site

Firewood and kindling.

Fresh free range eggs from the farm.

The village is only half a mile away, and has all the groceries/supplies you will need during your stay, we encourage you to support the local community.

Farm activities

Are seasonal, and some weather dependant, you are welcome to email for more info if interested in coming to stay when we are shearing or lambing etc.

This is a working farm campsite, we do not provide any type of entertainment or childrens play facilities.

Lambing is during March and april, shearing will be sometime during July.

Mobile phone reception

There is a good mobile phone reception at our campsite, most networks are available, if yours does not work and you need to phone home, or in an emergency etc., you are welcome to use the house phone.

We will charge phones for you in the house, and in return, expect you to drop a donation into the air ambulance box.

Campfires and BBQ'S
Are allowed, we ask for you to be cautious and sensible when making fires, and to respect the area and other campers by not building fires all over the field, but PLEASE use the designated areas. Fires must be 6 metres away from your and other campers tents. During windy weather we may not allow campfires due to safety issues.

There is a nightly charge for a campfire, includes one box of wood, usually lasts for about 2 or 3 hours.

All fires and BBQ's should be allowed to die down before 11pm and be fully extinguished by the time you go to bed.

Do not put hot BBQ's in or near the bin, they must be placed in the steel box provided.

Rules for campfires are displayed in the toilets and laundry room, please read them.

Rubbish/waste

We recycle all rubbish, and we ask for your help by keeping all glass, cans and plastic drinking bottles seperate from the rest of your rubbish. There are seperate bags for plastic, steel cans, cardboard and paper, and any aluminium cans or BBQ''s.

Please put all you glass in the RED bin provided, squash all your cans and put them in the large white bags. Squash your plastic bottles too please, they take up less space in the bin.

Directions

To find us..

You will need to come into the village centre of Llanberis, travel along the main high street, you will need to find Capel Coch Road, its signposted for the Youth Hostel, turn onto this road, stay on this road, it turns into Ceunant street, just keep on coming up the hill. It is a narrow lane, and quite steep. Unsuitable for large caravans or large campervans. It is tarmaced and does have passing places, so is suitable for cars and vans.

As Llanberis is by-passed you can enter at either end, if coming in from the A5, Capel Curig way you will need to take a left into the village, then left again at the Youth hostel sign, (right and on the right from the Caernarfon end).

We have noticed that some people using sat navs or route planners get a bit lost on the small side streets. Sending you on an unneccesary tour of Llanberis back streets, (including wrong way along the one way street outside petes eats), just ignore them! Only turn onto the high street at the main entrance, either end. Then only turn off the High Street , to the campsite at the Capel Coch Road turning. There is now a new Joe Brown shop here, the corner shop. It is sign posted for the Youth hostel and the Library. Just follow this road up the hill, past the hostel, we are the next stop up the hill.

Nearest train station is Bangor, Gwynedd. frequent bus service during the day, number 85 or 86, stops outside the station.

Taxi is best from the station in the evenings.

Stayed In: Pre Erected Pitches

Fantastic campsite.

What was great?
The owners of the campsite happily letting us stay in a pre erected tee pee after the Wind ripped our tent down before being anchored sufficiently ...saving a stranded father and son. Friendly helpful staff, facilities plentiful and cleaned nightly. Closest campsite to mountain railway, that I saw anyway. Great access to other surrounding attractions. Will happily stay again ..and I won't be bringing my tent:) i dont have a dog btw
