Welcome to Low Farm Touring Park

Low Farm is a secluded, family-run, park situated in the delightful conservation village of Folkingham, amidst the rolling vales of South West Lincolnshire.

Ideal for those who enjoy the peace and quiet of their immediate surroundings, but with the convenience of being within a few minutes walk of the village and its amenities.

Low Farm Touring and Camping Park is ideally situated for spending a leisurely weekend break, or for longer stays allowing you time to explore the wider area and all that it has to offer.

Our Park

The park is set in the grounds of Low Farm House and is both secluded and south facing. It is mainly favoured by adults and those who enjoy the peace and quiet of their immediate surroundings, but with the convenience of being within a few minutes walk of the village and its amenities.

The park has a modern, light and airy amenity building with wc's, wash basins, hot showers and wash-up areas. There is also a washing machine and tumble dryer (coin operated) available. Most of the pitches have electric hook-up.

The park also has a separate rally/camping field and a separate hardstanding area suitable for small to medium sized motorhomes, with electric hook-ups available if required. We are a small 'garden' park and, as such, we regret that we cannot accommodate large or 'Winnebego' style motorhomes or commercial vehicles.

We have an extensive tourist information point situated within our Old Cart Shed building and Calor Gas exchange is also available.

The park is only a few minutes walk from the conservation village of Folkingham, which has an extensively stocked village shop with delicatessen, local public house with restaurant, post office, Quaintways tea shop and Hansens Chocolate Shop.

The Area

Folkingham Village and Locality

The park is set on the edge of the conservation village. A few minutes walk takes you to the market square with the imposing Greyhound Inn building and Church of St Andrew.

The village has an extensively stocked shop where you can get all your essentials, including daily newspapers, and it also has a delicatessen with a variety of local produce to sample. Whilst here why not treat yourself to a home-cooked Sunday lunch or delicious cream tea at Quaintways or stroll up to the New Inn on West Street for a pub lunch, evening meal or just a quiet drink in the beer garden. If you want a gift for someone or to spoil yourself why not visit our village Chocolate Shop.

Folkingham also has a post office, which is open 3 mornings a week and there is a local farm shop situated just half a mile outside of the village.

The village is situated on the A15 which serves as easy access to all major routes and there are plenty of other delightful villages in the area to explore by car on our unspoilt country lanes. The area is popular with walkers and cyclists and for those who enjoy fishing, the lakes at Pickworth are a few minutes drive away and offer a peaceful place to while away the afternoon. There is a new public golf course and separate golf driving range 7 miles away at Silk Willoughby. There are indoor swimming pools and sports facilities in both Bourne and Sleaford, approximately 9 miles distant.

The Market Town of Stamford

Stamford stands in the southern part of Kesteven, Lincolnshire and is renowned for its historical, religious and architectural wonders and there are numerous places to enjoy within easy access of the charming town centre.

In the eighteenth century Parliament established 'turnpike trusts' which took over the responsibility of maintaining the main national roads, transforming them from muddy tracks to well surfaced highways. Travel time from London to Edinburgh by coach was cut from 12 to 4 days and Stamford was a huge, if unintended, beneficiary as it was located exactly a day's travel from London and so developed coaching inns, stabling and related trades. The town became the East Midlands' transportation hub with plenty of prospering merchants and lawyers and they built most of the fine houses we see in Stamford today.

As the Great North railway bypassed Stamford so too did much of the economic growth of the mid and late 19th century. The lack of Victorian industrialisation and redevelopment is the reason why todays visitors can enjoy an almost perfect unspoilt town with many Medieval and Georgian buildings.

Stamford was designated as England's first conservation area in 1967 and many films for television or cinema have been shot in Stamford. There are many pleasant areas to walk from the Town Meadows to the River Welland and Burghley House is just one mile from the centre of Stamford which is open for picnicking and walking every day.

Stamford offers a huge range of specialist shopping, including china, wholefoods, confectionery, quality boutiques, interior design, art galleries, crafts and giftware, plus major retailers. There are a number of antique dealers and second hand bookshops and a wide choice of cafes, restaurants and tea rooms.

Stamford offers an enjoyable day out and is an easy 30 minute drive from Low Farm.

City of Lincoln
A visit to the historic city of Lincoln is a must, as there are so many things to do and see. It is an easy 40 minute drive from Low Farm.

Lincoln Cathedral offers an unforgettable experience with its amazing architecture of crazy vaults and flying buttresses. See the inspirational art of stained glass, carved angels and medieval manuscripts. Take a guided tour or follow your own trail, visit Sir Christopher Wren's first library, browse for a book or souvenir in the well-stocked shop and stop to enjoy the 'Tastes of Lincolnshire' in the Cloister Refectory.

Enjoy the magnificent views of Lincoln from the Castle which has over 900 years of history. By Norman times, Lincoln was the third city of the realm in prosperity and importance. In 1068, two years after the Battle of Hastings, William the Conqueror began building Lincoln Castle on a site occupied since the Roman times. To enlarge the site, 166 Saxon houses were demolished and this fine building dominated the skyline until the cathedral was built. It is one of only two castles in Britain built with two mottes. For 900 years the castle has been used as a court and prison. Many original features still remain and the wall walks provide visitors with some magnificent views of the cathedral, the City of Lincoln and the surrounding countryside.

Lincoln has two thousand years of history and yet is a vibrant, modern city with lively new shops, award winning museums and galleries, popular restaurants, pubs and cafes. Whilst on the waterfront why not sit back, relax and enjoy the sights of Lincoln from a different perspective aboard a guided boat trip along the Fossdyke Navigation, believed to be the oldest Roman canal in the country.

Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage
Lincolnshire, renowned as the 'Home of the Royal Air Force', has a vast aviation heritage. The County's flat, open countryside and its location made it ideal for the development of airfields during the Great War and in the Second World War Lincolnshire became the most important home of Bomber Command. Several significant airfields are still operational and serving the modern day RAF while former airfields, museums and memorials are witness to the bravery of the men and women who served here in more turbulent times.

The Royal Air Force College at Cranwell is a famous landmark in RAF history and there is a fascinating exhibition which recalls in words and photographs the early years of the airfield from its origins as a Royal Navy Air Service Station and the establishment of the College as the first Military Air Academy in the world to the present day.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is different. Not museum pieces, the Flight is a unique collection of aircraft, maintained by a group of dedicated engineers who keep the Lancaster, two Hurricanes, 5 spitfires, a Dakota and two Chipmunks fully operational. Display commitments mean that the presence of particular aircraft cannot be guaranteed.

The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby maintains its own Avro Lancaster Bomber 'Just Jane' amidst a wealth of memorabilia and nostalgia. Based on the former airfield of Five Group Bomber Command, the control tower has been restored to its original condition.

Newark Air Museum has a display of over 69 aircraft and cockpits and 4 covered display areas which incorporate an ever changing range of aviation artefacts and memorabilia. There are numerous other museums, visitor centres and viewing areas in Lincolnshire and all are an easy drive from Low Farm on mainly quiet rural roads.

Burghley House
Enjoy a visit to the largest and grandest house of the Elizabethan Age. However, Burghley is so much more than a house, it offers a unique glimpse of the way great houses have been furnished and inhabited from the time of Queen Elizabeth I to the present day.

Burghley was built between 1555 and 1587 by William Cecil, Lord High Treasurer to Elizabeth I, and remains a Tudor house at heart. Its original soaring Tudor kitchen provides a breathtaking start on a tour through 18 state rooms.

Take a walk around the Gardens of Surprise which feature two complementary gardens side by side. The Garden of Surprises was opened in 2007 and it a classically designed but modern garden, hidden inside a two metre high yew hedge, and is an experience that will delight the senses. Leading from this is the ever popular contemporary Sculpture Garden.

Throughout your visit the Orangery Restaurant and Garden Cafe can provide for all your catering needs.

Burghley House is situated on the outskirts of Stamford and is about a half hour drive from Low Farm.

Burghley House is a member of the Hidden England Group of Historic Houses and Castles.

Grimsthorpe Castle
Grimsthorpe Castle is an imposing 1541 castle set amongst the rolling Lincolnshire countryside. Guided tours of the house are available on most weekdays, which will reveal the story of the building, its contents and the family that has cared for it for almost 500 years.

Grimsthorpe Castle is set in a 3,000 acre park of pastures, landscaped lakes and historic woodland. The 17th century oak park is a haven for deer and wildlife. There is an adventure playground and a family woodland walk.

Besides the wild deer which you may glimpse in the park, children will love the opportunity to meet the tame Red Deer near the Coach House. The licensed Coach House serves light lunches, teas and refreshments. There is also the Stables Shop which sells a tempting range of quality gifts in addition to a fine selection of locally made ice-cream.

Cycles are available for hire so you can enjoy miles of marked trails within the park. The route is designed with the family in mind and so avoids steep inclines and rough terrain wherever possible. Visitors are welcome to bring their own cycles and free maps are available at the hire shop.

Grimsthorpe is situated on the A151 between Colsterworth and Bourne and is approximately a 20 minute drive from Low Farm.

Grimsthorpe is one of the group of Hidden England attractions.

Spalding
Situated on the banks of the River Welland, Spalding is famous for being the centre of the flower industry in Britain, live entertainment and traditional markets.

The 'old town' of Spalding is compact with many independently owned shops and The Crescent is an attractive curved street with a mixture of Georgian, Victorian and contemporary architecture.

Spalding and the surrounding 'South Holland' area is renowned for its fertile land and horticulture. Although there are currently no plans for the Flower Parade to take place on the first Saturday in May this year, it is hoped there will still be a variety of flower festivals and events in and around Spalding at this time.

The Springfields Festival Gardens were completely redeveloped in 2004 and are a beautifully landscaped area, featuring Chelsea-style celebrity showcase gardens, including designs by Charlie Dimmock, Chris Beardshaw, Kim Wilde and Steven Woodhams, and a spectacular Japanese Garden by Sansui Design. At Springfields there is now also an outlet shopping complex with more than 55 stores and a great choice of cafes, restaurants and a family friendly pub.

Why not combine a visit to the town with a trip to the Springfields Shopping Outlet and Festival Gardens by taking a 35 minute trip along the river on the Spalding Water Taxi, which gives a unique way to see the town and the wildlife.

Spalding is an approximate 30 minute drive from Low Farm.

Rutland Water
England's smallest county is a hidden gem and has two market towns and lots of pretty villages to explore and at its heart is Rutland Water which is Europe's largest man-made lake. This internationally famous nature reserve is managed in partnership with Anglian Water and the Leicestershire & Rutland Wildlife Trust and provides one of the most important wildfowl sanctuaries in Great Britain.

One of the best known and loved landmarks of Rutland is Normanton Church Museum, which was saved from flooding when the reservoir was created and now serves as a museum, housing interesting fossils and telling the history of the area and those villages which were lost beneath the waves in the 1970s.

You could enjoy a 2 hour sailing experience on a skippered yacht or learn to fly fish on Europe's largest trout lake.

One of the most exhilarating ways to explore Rutland is by bike and there are routes to suit everyone and it offers cyclists some of the best views of both the reservoir and the Hamilton peninsular from its waterside tracks which circle the shoreline. There is also a high ropes course and an 8m high climbing and abseil tower.

Barnsdale Gardens are the creation of Geoff Hamilton, Britain's best loved television gardener and presenter of BBC TV’s Gardener's World weekly gardening programme, which Geoff presented from his home at Barnsdale in Rutland.

Rutland Water is approximately a 40 minute drive from Low Farm.

Belvoir Castle
Belvoir literally means 'beautiful view' so why not visit the home of the Duke and Duchess of Rutland and enjoy the spectacular views from the hilltop setting above the Vale of Belvoir.

Explore the magnificent castle with its grand State Rooms and impressive collection of military treasures, impressive period art, tapestries, sculpture and furniture. In contrast, the old Kitchen and Pastry Room will fuel your imagination of 'below stairs' life in 1825 and the authentic School Room and Nursery are well equipped for children to experience lessons and games from Regency times.

The stunning views of the surrounding countryside are matched by glorious gardens. First enjoy the beautiful rose and statue garden, then take the newly restored woodland path leading to a fine example of a Victorian valley garden which features many rare species of trees. The adventure playground, gardens and woodlands are perfect for outdoor activities and games.

The licensed Stewards Restaurant serves delicious hot lunches, snacks and afternoon tea on all Castle open days and uses local produce where possible. The Belvoir Ice Cream Parlour and Ticket Office serves scrumptious ice cream, snacks and drinks throughout the day.

Belvoir Castle is situated 7 miles from Grantham and is approximately 30 minutes drive from Low Farm.

Belton House
Belton House is the perfect English country house, set in its own extensive deer park. It was built in 1685-88 and is one of the finest examples of Restoration architecture.

Belton House has, over time, been the scene of lavish entertainment, wartime austerity and memorable love affairs. Today you can explore magnificent rooms displayed in 17th century, Regency, Victorian and 1930s style but which still retain a family feel, brought to life with our new 'Dawn to Dusk' theme.

Relax in the delightful gardens, linger by the lakeshore and see the newly restored Boathouse and don't forget to look out for the fallow deer. Why not have a spot of lunch or afternoon tea in the Stables Restaurant or call in for cakes and drinks at the coffee shop.

There is something for all the family, from the largest adventure playground in Lincolnshire and the 'Moondial Express' miniature train for the children to beautiful gardens and lavish interiors for everyone to enjoy.

Belton House is situated about 3 miles from Grantham and is less than a 30 minute drive from Low Farm.

Belton House holds many special or themed events throughout the year and is one of the group of Hidden England attractions.

Heckington 8-Sail Windmill
The only remaining 8-sailed tower mill in Western Europe is to be found in the village of Heckington, which is a pleasant 20 minute drive from Low Farm.

The mill was built with five sails in 1830. After severe storm damage in 1890 the tower was re-equipped by John Pocklington, using machinery from the eight-sailed Tuxford's Mill in Boston.

Heckington Mill was last worked commercially in 1946 but was preserved and restored to working order in 1986. Following major repairs in 2004 the mill is now once again in full working order and is managed by Friends of Heckington Mill, a voluntary charitable trust, for the owners, Lincolnshire County Council.

The mill has 4 pairs of millstones and there is a shop selling flour and souvenirs.

Why not combine your visit to the windmill with a trip to the Railway Museum, which is housed in the station buildings opposite the mill. There are pubs, cafes and shops in the village and many interesting buildings, among them the fine 14th century parish church of St Andrews.

The Heckington Show, which is held in July every year, is the largest village show in the country.

Easton Walled Gardens
Enjoy a visit to 12 acres of 'lost' gardens which were once the grounds of a great house. Requisitioned by the army during the war the house fell into disrepair and was pulled down in 1951. After 450 years of continuous cultivation the gardens were abandoned for the next 50 years.

In late 2001 work began felling sycamores and scrub to see if the gardens still remained beneath. This story is still evolving but today there is a garden for the 21st century.

The gardens now include a David Austin Rose Collection, 100 varieties of Daffodil, 50 varieties of Sweet Peas, Irises, trial beds, cutflower garden and a yew tunnel. There are also two glasshouses, a cottage and vegetable garden.

There is a gift shop with plants and own seed range and delicious homemade teas and light lunches are available.

There is masses of space for children to run in and a visit here should leave you feeling relaxed and inspired to work on your own garden at home.

Easton Walled Gardens is situated 7 miles south of Grantham, approximately 30 minutes drive from Low Farm.

Sport and Recreation
South Lincolnshire is ideal for walking and cycling in a pleasant, relaxing environment. The nearest fishing lakes are at Pickworth, just a couple of miles away, which offer a peaceful place to while away the afternoon.

There are indoor swimming pools and leisure facilities at Bourne, Sleaford and Grantham and outdoor swimming pools at Bourne and Woodhall Spa.

There are public golf courses nearby at Ropsley and Silk Willoughby, which also has a separate golf driving range for those who want to practise their shots.

For those who like something a bit different, or for a special treat, there is karting, quad biking or paintball, as well as ten pin bowling at Ancaster.

For younger guests there are indoor soft play centres at Crazee Bongos in Sleaford, the Fun Farm at Grantham or Play Towers in Boston.

There are cinemas in Grantham, Boston or Lincoln or, for something different, why not go to the unique 'Kinema in the Woods' at Woodhall Spa.

Folkingham has its own village pub and tea shop but there are also lots of other local village pubs and coffee shops not far away.

The Hub, which is the National Centre for Craft and Design, is situated in the market town of Sleaford just 9 miles away.

For those who enjoy a trip to the seaside, the 'Blue Flag' beach at Skegness is only about an hour's drive away.
