Welcome to Mullacott Farm

Mullacott Farm - North Devon.

Mullacott Farm has 30 acres set in the coastal preservation area of North Devon. The fields boast sea views on three sides, overlooking Woolacombe and Lundy Island to the West, Lee Bay and Ilfracombe to the North, and the South Coast of Wales on a clear day. We have spectacular views of coast and countryside.

Swallow Barn - Bed and Breakfast

Alison and Adrian Homa and Caroline and Bryan Channing look forward to welcoming you to Swallow barn for a relaxing stay in the country.

Swallow Barn is nearly 100 years old. It is set in the heart of the farm, as an annex to the farmhouse. It was converted during 2002 and finally finished in the November.

We have retained many of the original features, including the old exposed beams.

All the bedrooms have a double and a single bed, and are en-suite, with a toilet, basin and shower. They are tastefully decorated, in a simple country cottage theme.
There are two bedrooms on the ground floor, with stable doors leading out onto the patio, where there is substantial wooden garden furniture, where you can enjoy an evening drink and while away the time.

Upstairs are a further four bedrooms, which have retained the original character of the building, with exposed beams. Two of these rooms have interconnecting doors if required, with the other two having a double and two single beds each. The upstairs rooms have their own patio to use.

All of the bedrooms are well appointed with colour television, clock radio, a tea and coffee hospitality tray, hairdryer, plenty of storage space, and a comfortable seating area, with chairs and table. There is a fridge with freezer compartment available for all of the guests to use.
Swallow Barn is a No Smoking building.

Alison and Adrian, Caroline and Bryan have been running hotels for many years, in Somerset and Bournemouth. Alison is a trained chef, and has worked in the catering industry since she left school. We all hold food hygiene certificates.

The farmhouse breakfast is served in the country dining room, downstairs. On the dresser, for you to help yourself, will be a selection of popular breakfast cereals, grapefruit segments, prunes, yoghurts and orange juice. We will serve you with your hot drink selection, which may be tea, coffee, hot chocolate, decaffeinated tea and coffee or herbal teas.

The cooked breakfast can be any combination of the traditional English breakfast. The sausages are made from our own pork and the bacon is cured and sliced on the farm. The eggs come from our own free-range hens or ducks, and can be fried poached or scrambled, the choice is yours. The tomatoes come from our greenhouse, when in season; the jam and marmalade, for your toast is homemade throughout the year. Alternatively, we do offer kippers or porridge, if ordered the night before. A limited early breakfast can be available by arrangement.

We will be happy to cater for special diets, if we have advance notice.
We offer packed lunches, if ordered the previous day, at an extra charge (If we have suitable items available).

There is a storage area available for surfboards and bicycles. There are hooks and boot racks in the hall to dry off outer wear. We also have a large collection of maps, guides and tourist information.

Check in is anytime after midday, and check out is by 10.00 a.m. on the day of departure.

Annual Caravan Storage

At the moment we are able to offer outside caravan storage. We are full inside the storage barn. The only way of going into the barn is to have outside storage first. Caravans move into the barn in strict rotation, from the date the storage first started. The only exceptions to this are very large, double axel vans, as they may get overtaken in the queue, if there isn't physically a space that they will fit into, or if a very small space becomes available and only a 2 berth van will fit.

We will use all security devices that are given to us, including hitch locks, wheel clamps or both.

Caravans are manoeuvered by hand in the barn, and transported by tractor to the collection point. We will always leave a caravan in the direction they will leave the farm, to make it as easy as possible for driving off. When returning your van to the farm there is no necessity to turn the van around, as we will do this to put it away.

Short stay storage

Do you live locally and are having work done on your house, and need some parking for a while?
Do you like to stay in North Devon, and have a couple of holidays here a year?
Would you like to leave your van for a shorth amount of time, between visits, to save you driving it home and back?

We can offer short stay parking for between holidays. We can even collect and deliver it back to the site of your choice, for a small additional charge.

£20 per week.

Outside Cleaning

We do not allow cleaning of caravans in the storage area, or on the campsite, but can offer to clean the vans for you. We do not use a power washer, but clean it by hand, to protect the window seals.

First clean £45.

Subsequent cleans £35.

Towing to various local sites POA

Do you have a big gas guzzler that you are keeping just to tow your caravan twice a year?

Do you like to travel from work, but your prefered site will already be locked by the time you arrive?

Do you have a family member who doesn't like towing, but would like to be able to use the caravan more often?

We offer a towing service to various local sites. We will take your van, when the pitch is made available, and lock it with the you provide. You can just drive up to your pitch and be ready for your holiday without the stresses of towing.

Please remember that pitches have an arrival and departure time al all sites, and we are also governed by these too. We always ring a site we will be delivering to, to check availability, but can only got your van there when we are told the pitch has become available. On the day of departure you must ting us with your estimated time of leaving, as yours may not be the only van that needs moving, and we have to plan the order.

Static Holiday Caravan

Our static caravan is situated in a sheltered area of the farm, overlooking one of our many paddocks. It has three bedrooms and can accommodate 6 people comfortably.

There is a master double bedroom with a double bed, wardrobe, dressing table and mirror, and over bed cupboard. A twin room with two small beds and a bedside chest. Another twin/double with a wardrobe and over bed cupboard. All come complete with bedding, including duvets, pillows, mattress protectors, sheets, duvet covers and pillowcases.

The bathroom has a basin, mains flushing toilet and hip bath/shower, with hot and cold running water.

The galley kitchen is fitted with a fridge with icebox, cooker, microwave, kettle and toaster. There is plenty of glass wear, crockery and cutlery

The lounge/dining room has comfortable banquet seating, a crockery cupboard, gas fire and television. There are many windows, overlooking the paddock and a door leading to the patio area. The dining room table packs away and doesn't take up huge amounts of living space.

The caravan can be booked weekly, Saturday-to-Saturday. It is available from 4.00pm. on the day of arrival and must be vacated by 10.00am on the day of departure. This enables us to prepare the caravan for the next guests.

Farm Holiday with Spectacular Views of Coast and Countryside

We are a family run farm, with many breeds of livestock, some of them being unusual or rare breeds.

We have a small herd of Dexter cows, which provide us with meat and milk. These are friendly, small black cows, with their calves. We usually calve in the Spring.

At the moment we have 30 Breeding ewes, a ram and some of last years lambs. We have polled Dorset sheep, a white sheep without horns. These lamb throughout the Winter and early Spring.

Throughout the year we raise pigs to supply the farm with bacon and sausages, for the Bed and Breakfast and campers. We have kept various breeds, and there should hopefully always be some to see here.

We currently have about 300 chicken and 12 ducks, which all provide us with eggs, which are again available from the farmhouse. There are various breeds including Khaki Campbell and Aylesbury Ducks, Warrens, Rhode Island Red, Light Sussex, and Welbar hens.

The poultry have livestock guardians living with them in the form of our 5 Alpacas. These originated from South America, and have incredibly soft fleece. They are very good at chasing away the fox when he comes for a visit, and are in addition to the electric poultry net.

We try and keep the farm as child friendly as we can, as we have children too, but we do ask that visiting children are supervised and dogs are kept on leads.

North Devon Tourist Attractions

Mullacott Farm is lucky to be in a region with so much to do. Those active souls amongst you might like to hire a bike and cycle the Tarka Trail. Others may prefer water sports, golf, walking, fishing or riding, all of which are well catered for.

However it may be that a gentle stroll around the harbour at Lynmouth or along the cobbled roads of Appledore is more your style. Wandering down the narrow streets of Clovelly is also very popular with holiday visitors, although walking back up is not always treated with such enthusiasm. There is also a huge range of other quality attractions to choose from as well as markets, craft centres, pubs and restaurants.

Lundy lies off the coast of North Devon, where the Atlantic ocean meets the Bristol Channel with nothing between it and America, a granite outcrop, three and a half miles long and half a mile wide. In the hubbub of the modern world it is a place apart, peaceful and unspoilt.

The remains of the largest castle in Devon, in an outstandingly picturesque setting on a wooded spur above the rushing River Okement. Begun soon after the Norman Conquest as a motte and bailey castle with a stone keep, it was converted into a sumptuous residence in the 14th century by Hugh Courtenay, Earl of Devon, much of whose work survives. After the last Courtenay owner fell foul of Henry VIII in 1538, it declined into an allegedly haunted ruin. Riverside picnic area and woodland walks nearby.

Hartland Abbey lies across a narrow, sheltered valley which winds its way to the spectacular Atlantic Coast only a mile away. Directions

Directions:

From junction 27 of the M5, follow the A361 to Barnstaple. Continue on the A361 following signs to Ilfracombe. On entering Ilfracombe from Mullacott Cross, 300m from the roundabout turn left, at the brown tourist sign saying Mullacott Riding Stables and Mullacott Farm Camping Barn. From leaving the road, drive through the two white pillars, with horses heads on and take the first turning right. Follow the signs, keeping to the right hand side of the paddock and come up to the farmhouse (building on the right hand side).

FROM THE TOURIST INFORMATION CENTRE
Turn right out of Car Park to second set of lights, turn right, then straight on into St Brannocks road. Drive past lay-by on right hand side then take the next turning right up the hill, after the brown tourist sign, pointing to Mullacott Farm Camping Barn and Mullacott Riding Stables. Once off the road drive through the two white pillars, with horses heads on and take the first turning right. Follow the signs, keeping to the right hand side of the paddock and come up to the farmhouse (building on the right hand side).

NEW STORAGE, TOWING or LARGE LORRIES follow the signs and turn left around the paddock. Park up and come up to the house. If you are just in a car then follow the signs, keeping to the right hand side of the paddock and come up to the farmhouse (building on the right hand side).

If you are towing then keep to the left of the paddock and park up before coming to the farmhouse.
