Welcome to Polmanter Tourist Park

Welcome to Polmanter Touring Park, a five star family camping and caravan park set in stunning surroundings within walking distance of the picturesque fishing port of St Ives.

With spectacular views of the Cornish coastline from St Ives Bay to Trevose Head some 40 miles away, Polmanter is an ideal base from which to explore the West Cornwall peninsula and offers a perfect location for your touring caravan or camping holiday. Care and attention to detail throughout the park and its modern facilities is reflected in our five star grading, with thoughtful touches to make your stay with us truly exceptional.

Simply relax in our beautifully kept grounds or visit the town of St Ives which offers a range of interests for the visitor. It’s quaint cobbled streets, flanked by picturesque fishermen’s cottages, reveal it’s seaside heritage. It is a haven for artists, who flock to capture the unique light, the melting sunsets and clusters of charming fishing boats.

Park Amenities

At Polmanter we have excellent facilities all maintained to the highest standard.

With shower and toilet blocks of exceptional quality, all are regularly inspected and have attained an “excellent” grading from the English Tourist Board inspector.

All showers have free hair dryers, shaver points and electric sockets for visitors’ own electric hair appliances.

The newest block, opened in 2011 and situated in Levant meadow, has individual shower rooms, a disabled suite, 2 baby bathrooms and under-floor heating.

Our baby changing room has fun décor and deep sinks suitable for bathing small children and it is situated close to two family shower rooms.

Chemical disposal points can be found outside each Amenity Building.

Our laundry room is open all day and evening. It has industrial quality coin operated washing and drying machines providing excellent laundry facilities. Deep sinks for hand washing and free irons can also be found here.

Public wireless internet access is available from all pitches at Polmanter so do bring your laptop. Pre paid cards can be purchased on arrival or during your stay.

If you don’t bring your laptop with you, internet access is available at Reception for a small charge.

You will also find lots of local tourist information, bus timetables and discount vouchers at Reception.

Our office hours are 9am – 6pm in low season and 9am – 8pm in the high season. Our Receptionists are there to answer any queries you have about your stay and they also have a vast knowledge of the local area.

Next door to Reception is the on-site convenience shop* open from Spring Bank Holiday at the end of May to mid September.

The Shop stocks a wide range of groceries, essential camping accessories and camping gas. Daily newspapers and magazines are available and you will also find a selection of toys, games wines spirits and a variety of beers.

Bread, pastries and croissants are baked fresh every day filling the air with a delicious aroma first thing in the morning. A freezer pack hire service is also to be found in the shop.

Security is very important to us and every effort is made to ensure the safety of our visitors and their belongings. We have a vehicle barrier entry system which is locked between the hours of midnight and six thirty am and during the high season, our night warden regulary patrols the park from 10pm to 5am.

Dogs are welcome at Polmanter as long as they are kept on a lead at all times. We have a large dog exercise area with free runs and dedicated bins. Well behaved dogs are allowed in the conservatory but not in the bar or pool area.

Food and Drink

A warm welcome awaits you in The Stable Bar and Restaurant* where you can relax after a busy day. Delicious meals are served each evening in the bar lounge, family lounge and conservatory which overlooks the *swimming pool. This looks particularly attractive after dark when the pool is illuminated. The menu includes dishes prepared using locally sourced produce and a variety of real ales and local beers are available in the bar. Entertainment is provided during the high season. Bingo is always very popular and live music acts are also featured.

Save cooking by visiting the take-away counter* which is situated close to the conservatory and is open during the early evenings.

Relax in The Conservatory
The 2013 Evening Menu includes: Grilled Fillet of Seabass, Local Pork & Real Ale Sausages, Fillet of Beef, Cornish Sirloin Steak, Spinach and Ricotta Cannelloni and of course Lee’s delicious Stable Bar Burger.

Popping out of the pizza oven are all the old classics, but new for 2013 is BBQ Chicken.

Freshly Prepared Salads are always on the menu, served with Homemade Coleslaw, White or Granary bread.

For the children or smaller appetites choose from Sausage and Mash, Fish Fingers and Chips, Lasagna with Garlic Bread or Chicken Dippers and Chips.

Sticky Toffee Pudding is a Polmanter favourite, but alongside this you’ll be tempted by Hot Chocolate Fudge Cake, Sicilian Lemon Meringue Cheesecake, Homemade Bread and Butter Pudding, and a wide selection of yummy Ice Creams.

Inside the Stable Bar
The Stable Bar is set in a beautiful granite barn conversion. The orginal building was used as a cow shed as Polmanter used to be a working dairy farm.

The Stable Bar first opened as a bar and restaurant in 1986. The Conservatory was later added in 1999 to accomodate the demand for extra seating and then in 2012 The Stable Bar got treated to a complete refurbishment with new seating throughout, new toilets, attention to the roof and a new tongue and groove surround around the bar.

Lee and Alex a local couple have ran the bar for the past four seasons. Lee is an accomplished chef and takes great pride in his food. Alex will be found running the front of house and she will always be ready to give you a warm smile and friendly welcome.

Leisure Facilities

At Polmanter there are lots of leisure facilities to keep you occupied throughout the day.

Our outdoor heated swimming pool is open from Spring Bank Holiday at the end of May until mid-September. There is a shallow childrens’ paddling area at one end and sun loungers can be found on the spacious terraces for those who like to relax by the poolside.

The swimming pool opens daily from 10am until 7pm and there is an adults only session every morning from 9am until 10am.

All children under the age of 15 must be supervised by a responsible adult when using the swimming pool.

If you are inspired by Wimbledon each year we have two hard tennis courts which are open all throughout the season. You can book a court and hire tennis rackets at our Reception desk. Tennis court hire is £3 per hour and an additional £1.50 if you would like to hire upto 4 rackets and balls.

Next to the tennis courts you will find a small putting green, putters and balls for the green can be collected from Reception without charge and are available throughout the season.

We have two play areas at Polmanter, the first is situated in Geevor meadow and is suitable for smaller children with two wooden horses, a tractor, swings, a climbing frame with a slide and new for 2012 was the wooden VW camper van also complete with slide.

The second play area is designed for older children and is situated behind the tennis courts. It includes 2 large tyre swings, a climbing frame and a large slide.

For all ball games like cricket, football, and activities such as kite flying, there is a large Sports Field situated close to the park entrance which has 2 goal posts and lots of room to run.

We prefer not to allow ball games on site to protect peoples’ caravans and tents.

Our Indoor Games Room has two pool tables, a table tennis table and gaming machines. It is open daily from 9am until late.

The Area

St Ives
The old fishing port of St Ives is one of the best known gems of the Cornish coast and few visitors fail to be attracted by the resort’s many charms. The beautiful beaches of golden sand are within walking distance of Polmanter and are pefect for bathing, surfing or just relaxing. The old town of stone cottages clusters around the picturesque harbour filled with colouful fishing craft and here you will find pubs, restaurants, cafes, souvenir shops and surf shops as well as the many art galleries.

One of the great pleasures of St ives is that you can wander at will, exploring the small streets and alleys, many of which give glimpses of the harbour. It is impossible to get lost for nowhere is far away. Down’long is the true old part of St Ives on the low land between The Island and the mainland, with the harbour on one side and Porthmeor Beach on the other. This was the fishermen’s quarter of old but today many of the cottages are holiday lets.

The town has won the ‘Britain in Bloom’ competition many times and several European titles too. There’s a blaze of colour all around the town: houses smothered in baskets of blooms, parks and public areas a rich spectrum of radiant colours. The mild climate and almost frost-free winters makes it possible to grow plants and shrubs normally native to semi-tropical countries hundreds of miles further south.

Tate St Ives, part of the Tate Gallery in London, is a stunning building with a varying exhibition of local and national works and well worth a visit. The Gallery’s inspirational building stands high above the magnificent surfing beach of Porthmeor and features exhibitions which represent the modern ‘St Ives School’ of painters such as Peter Lanyon, Patrick Heron and Sir Terry Frost as well as a changing programme of other contemporary work. Allied to Tate St Ives is the Barbara Hepworth Museum, a lasting memorial to the great sculptress who lived and worked in St Ives at her Trewyn Studio. Her workshop has been carefully preserved and made accessible; the gardens and house contain many examples of her work and some of her finest pieces.

Whether you wish to relax on one of the beaches, walk around the coastal paths, swim, surf or shop, St Ives has all you require for an enjoyable holiday.

Local Activities

Polmanter is an ideal location to explore West Cornwall. The beautiful sandy beaches of St Ives are within walking distance but incase you get tired of building sandcastles and lazing on the beach, below is a list of local points of interest and other things to do during your stay in West Cornwall.

Craft Workshops (4 miles away) Hidden away in Hayle; Threads is a creative sanctuary where people can meet, learn, relax & chat. This little oasis of textile heaven, holds craft workshops for people of all abilities as well as childrens’ workshops in the school holidays and regulary at the weekends. Eden Project(40 miles away) Trek through the world’s largest indoor rainforest, pass waterfalls and plantations. Enjoy the mediteranean without leaving Cornwall or catch the land train around the outside gardens. www.edenproject.com

Fishing (Within 1 mile) Scenic boat trips and sea fishing trips go from St Ives Harbour and Penzance. Coarse fishing is also located close by at Amalwhidden Farm.

Flambards (18 miles away) is fun for all the family. Experience Britain in the Blitz, The War and Aviation Galleries, a Huge Victorian Village alongside theme park rides, undercover soft play and an indoor science playground. Geevor Tin Mine (11 miles away) Between Lands end and St Ives is the largest preserved mining history site in the country. Go underground and find out what a days work was like in a real 19th century mine, on the surface see the mining machinery and enjoy the amazing coastal views. www.geevor.com

Golf (Within 2 miles) There are many options for playing golf in West Cornwall if our small putting green isn’t enough for you. Horse Riding (Within 1 mile) There are 2 horse riding schools close to Polmanter, Penhalwyn Trekking Centre which is located in our village of Halsetown and Old Mill Stables under 3 miles away in Lelant Downs.

Learn To Surf ( From1.5 miles away) Porthmeor Beach in St Ives and Gwithian Sands in Hayle are the most popular beaches in the area to learn to surf. These beaches will have surf schools with boards and wetsuits to hire. http://globalboarders.com/

Minack Theatre (16 miles by car) Cornwall’s unique open-air theatre built into the cliffside at Porthcurno is a must see when visiting West Cornwall. Take along your supper, a hot flask or a bottle of wine and watch performances as the sun sets and you may even spot a dolphin or two. www.minack.com

St Michael’s Mount (Under 8 miles drive away) Go by boat or foot and discover a fairy tale castle on a small island situated just off the shore at Marazion. Wander sub tropical gardens and enjoy beautiful sea views from the castle turrets. Paradise Park (7 miles drive away) See beautiful rare parrots, toucans, flamingos, owls and kookaburras. Have your photograph taken with a penguin and watch the otters feed. Meet mini donkeys, pygmy goats and rabbits at the fun farm, and if you still have any energy left have fun in the indoor jungle barn with the giant slides, challenging soft play and the toddler’s zone. www.paradisepark.org.uk

Tate St Ives (under 2 miles away) Situated over looking Porthmeor Beach in the centre of St Ives, Tate St Ives was opened in 1993 to celebrate the artists who lived and worked in the town throughout the twentieth century. Many famous names like Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson and Naum Gabo helped St Ives to become internationally recognised as a centre of modern art. www.tate.org.uk/stives

Walking West Cornwall has some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK. Walking our rugged coastline will transport you away from the busy fishing towns to a peaceful world of your own. The South West Coastal Path gives walkers access to almost the entire cornish coast. Popular coastal walks in the area include : St Ives to Zennor, Sennen Cove to Lands End, Carbis Bay to St Ives. We also have a selection of circular walks from Polmanter available in Reception free of charge.

Cycling Cornwall is notorious for being full of hills so is not always easy to get around by bike, however there are dedicated cycle tracks throughout the county where you can have a pleasant cycle without facing any daunting hills.

Marazion to Newlyn – Begin at St Michaels Mount and join the cycle track along the sea front. Portreath to Devoran takes you from coast to coast in a few hours along a flat old mining trail.

Walking and Cycling

Walking into St Ives from Polmanter is approximately 1 mile, it’s fairly easy and you can be in the centre of St Ives in about 25 minutes. There are two footpaths from the site leading you across fields on to a country lane, which then takes you right down into the centre of town.

The walk back to Polmanter however is all up hill, therefore at the end of the day some of our customers prefer to take the bus back.

We have a private bus service which operates from the end of May through to mid September and it will conveniently drop you at our arrivals field.

Local bus companies First and Western Greyhound have public buses which pass through our village to St Ives and to Penzance which operate all throughout the year.

West Cornwall has some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK. Walking our rugged coastline will transport you away from the busy fishing towns to a peaceful world of your own. Directions

From the A30 take the A3074 to St Ives. Turn left at the second mini roundabout to St Ives via Halsetown. Turn right at the B3311 and right again at The Halsetown Inn. Turn left in to Polmanter.

From St Ives take the B3306 out of town, turn left on the B3311 to Halsetown. Turn left at The Halsetown Inn, then left in to Polmanter.
