What was great?
We've stayed at Roundhill several times now and we keep going back to it as our camp site of choice in the New Forest. It consists of a vast open heath land area in the middle of the Forest, meaning there's loads of space, so no cramped pitches, but you can be walking or cycling in the forest in minutes. There are plenty of great walking & cycling trails that go near by the site and it's a walkable distance from Brockenhurst, either via a scenic walk along forest trails, or a shorter treck on quiet B-roads. The staff are always very friendly and knowledgeable and although we don't have children, there always seems to be activities going on for kids, either on-site or nearby. It makes a great base location for a New Forest stay, being close to the lovely towns/villages of Brockenhurst, Lyndhurst, Beaulieu and a short drive away from Lymington, where you can get a ferry to the Isle of Wight. Some of our favourite local attractions are the Beaulieu Motor Museum (which also has a lovely manor house and gardens to look around), New Forest Wildlife Centre, which is a fantastic day out, especially if you have kids, who seem to love the feeding times, the large adventure playground and the VERY friendly deer, Dotty! Also, horse riding trips into the New Forest are available from several local stables and of course the Isle of Wight is a short ferry trip away. The toilet, shower and wash-up facilities are great, plenty of showers, which are free (no annoying coin operated things!) and always clean. There are wild ponies and cows roaming around the site, which gives it a really nice atmosphere. Be careful not to leave food lying around your tent/caravan, or they won't be too shy about coming and having it away! At evening/night time, you can see bats, which seem to particurly like the big pond near the entrance and the concrete road that runs along the far edge, by the water tower. We've also seen glow bugs, which is the only place in the UK I've ever seen them!We've stayed at Roundhill several times now and we keep going back to it as our camp site of choice in the New Forest.

Even better if....
It seems comparatively expensive for camping, but then you do get good facilities. We paid £39 for two people staying in one tent with one car for two nights. It can get expensive if there's a group of you, so try to share tents/cars to keep the cost down. Be aware that the gates into the site close at 10:30pm and you will not be able to enter the site by car after this. There are signs up by the entrance, but they can be obscured by the gates and we got caught out by this once, arriving back at around 10:35 and we had to leave the car by the entrance and walk down to the tent.
