Welcome to White House Campsite

Welcome to White House Campsite - a small, quiet caravan and camping site in the Heart of Wales. The site is right next to the River Wye and only a short walk to the centre of Builth Wells and the Royal Welsh Showground at Llanelwedd.

The whole site is flat and level with a clean shower and toilet block designed to be accessible for people with disabilities. Pitches have the option of electric hook-ups or hard standing, subject to availability.

Builth Wells is host to the Royal Welsh Show each July, and the Showground is only a ten minute walk away. A number of events take place there throughout the year - visit the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society website for a full list.

The campsite is busy during the Royal Welsh Show, when it is essential to book in advance - click here for details. It’s a good idea to check if we have room, especially on bank holiday weekends or if you would like to reserve a hook-up or hard standing. You can contact us by email or telephone, but please call only during usual office hours.

There is lots to do in Builth Wells including an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, sports centre, swimming pool and good bars and restaurants. There are good opportunities right on the doorstep for activities like walking, fishing, and cycling. The campsite site is on the route of the Wye Valley Walk and Lôn Las Cymru, the Welsh National Cycle Route which runs from north to south Wales.

Walking
The Wye Valley Walk passes through Builth Wells, and there are countless footpaths and bridleways in the hills of Breckonshire and Radnorshire which surround the town. The 90km Epynt Way is a circular bridleway around the Epynt Range MOD training area. Click here for some other great walks around Builth Wells.

Cycling
The campsite is at roughly the half way point between Holyhead and Cardiff or Chepstow on Lôn Las Cymru, or National Cycle Route 8 - click here for more details. The opportunities for biking in the area are excellent, with miles of quiet country roads to be explored. See our cycling page for more details.

Activities:

Fishing
The site is next to the river Wye and near to the rivers Irfon, Duhonw and Edw. The Upper Wye Passport scheme allows you to fish for wild trout and salmon on a roving voucher system and day permits for the area can be bought in town - click here for details. There is also good course fishing on offer only seven miles away at Llandrindod Lake.
Golf
There's an excellent 18-hole course at Builth Wells Golf Club, where the clubhouse is a converted 15th century traditional Welsh Long House. Llandrindod Wells golf course is also nearby, and both clubs are open to visitors.

Canoeing
Canoeists can access the river Wye whenever the river is running high or at any time outside the main fishing season. Click here for more details. The site is right next the the river so you can stay with us for an overnight stop on the way down the river Wye and groups can be accommodated. Canoes are also available for hire at Glasbury - only a 20 minute drive (or a 15 mile paddle!) from the site.

Rugby
Builth Wells RFC play in WRU League Division two, and play their home matches on the Groe park. If you're heading down to Cardiff to watch a match at the Millennium Stadium, break up the journey and spend the night in Builth!

Leisure Centre & Swimming Pool

Cycling

Road Cycling and Touring
The roads in Mid Wales have been popular with cyclists for years - there are many great routes surrounding Builth Wells to choose from.

Lôn Las Cymru (National Cycle Route 8) passes the campsite on the way from Holyhead to Cardiff or Chepstow. The campsite is a natural stop while riding all or part of the route, with places to eat nearby.

The traffic free Elan Valley Trail starts in Rhayader, only a few miles away - see more details here.
The campsite is a few miles from way marked forestry trails at Llanwrtyd Wells, and only thirty minutes drive from some great routes in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

It's only about one hour drive to Nant-y-Arian, an hour from the Cli-machx trail near Machynlleth, about 90 minutes from the excellent routes at Cwm Carn and Afan Forest Park, while Brechfa is less than an hour away. Visit mbwales.com for more information on all of these routes.

Mountain Bike
The natural mountain bike routes surrounding Builth Wells are some of the best in the UK, and the campsite has hosted a number of great MTB and road cycling events over the years.

Useful maps for exploring the many miles of great MTB trails surrounding the area include the OS Explorer 188 and 200.
