We are thinking of buying a satellite receiver for our caravan, has anybody any ideas which is the best one and the coatings? Also how hard is to set these up once on a site?

Hi, you can buy a complete kit from under £100. from places like eBay, Amazon, caravan shops etc. If your touring you need to consider buying a zone 2 dish which covers Scotland and Europe (it's slightly larger 60cm).
They are a doddle to set up with a sat finder, which usually comes with the kit. I use a fixed pole on my seasonal pitch for the dish and a tripod when touring.
My full kit cost me under £60 from ebay and it works great, so you don't have to spend a fortune.

Regards
Ray

Hi there, ref sat dishes,i wouldnt say they are a doddle to set up.i use a domestic dish in my van, dismantled for carrying.55cm.firstly,the tripod needs to be upright in both planes,15degree skew on the l n b,clockwise, the azimuth angle on the dish will vary depending on latitude, plumb upright is usually ok in england.astra2 angle is 152degrees from north,28.2east of south.Be careful you dont tune to the next satellite which is 19east.ivefound the best sat finde gives you a range of lights. Hi Darren,
I brought a 65cm dish and a HUMAX freesat box.
The first few times you set it up can be tricky but you do get the hang of it. it is a wonderful way to receive TV and radio and is great when others are struggling with their terrestrial aerials.
One tip, buy a decent receiver unit, and not the cheapest you can find. Humax do graded units which are fantastic value

I agree with ray,all his comments are correct,in my experience. In addition,i use my sky box in the caravan where I'm going to be on mains electric.Connected to a house hold type dish.In france, yhis will only go down to about poitiers, signal wise, then you need 75cm.In spain, barcelona area I have a 1metre one.but no bbc or itv.much further south it will pick up,bbc, itv.
If you buy a dish with twin L.N.B.,ie,two outlets, you can record also, like you would at home,Two signals are required to record

I have a oyster system, which due to its age wont find Astra 2, an upgrade is £700 plus which is a lot of money when it may all change again, I've had limited success by finding Astra1 and then switching to Manuel and clicking two down and five right to lock onto Astra 2 , does anybody know of a more reliable/accurate way of locating Astra 2 with out the guess work ?
Thanks
Phil
