Having now got to the bottom of a major fault on the 12v circuit I think this will be quite a common problem. As a help to others these are the details of the problem and the solution.
The Problem. First of all the Truma Water Heater started to turn off intermittently. A few days later the fan in the space heater failed and then a few days after that the ignition for gas function of the fridge failed.
The Solution. I traced the wires down from the units under the wardrobe and main seat around the offside wheel arch, over the rear axel and around the near side wheel arch. Then traced the loom towards the rear battery compartment. Approx under the fridge the loom passes through a hole in the vehicle chassis, it was quite a tight angle and there was no grommet. At this point the loom had worn through and the two main wires had shorted and also melted two of the 3 lighter gauge wires (guess these were for hob and fridge igniters). I cut back and inserted pieces and the problems were resolved.
