Help!!! I have just resealed on of my caravan rails and I am having a devil of a job replacing the 12mm strip that covers the screw heads any advice appreciated. I can get it back in but it wont sit under the aluminium rail properly. Will I have to do it as I go along, or do it all then try and get one edge into the lip. I really don't know and I have one more full length rail left to do.

as well as the heat treatment already mentioned you could also try some silicone spray just to smooth the sliding process

Hi Lynn

I replaced my awning rail grey strip last year on my motorhome.

As you say, it is not easy!!!

I found the best way is to use a hair dryer on about 10" or so on the plastic trim to heat it and soften it.
It can then be inserted into the groove using something like a flat head screw driver to push it in place. Put one side in first and then push the other side in with the screwdriver ( or flat something!!!!)

It will take a long time but I have not found a better way. Make sure you do not overheat, but trial and error is the best way.

By the time you read this, I expect you will have already done the job!

Not a job to do on a cold day. As Bob advises, warm the plastic strip to soften, stretch slightly as you move along the rail and flat head screwdriver may be handy if you encounter any bits that don't want to go in.

Ray
