I insure our caravan through The Caravan Club. Fortunately, I have never had to make a claim (as already said by someone - "touch wood") We are also members of The Camping & caravaning Club. A couple of years back I concluded there was little between the insurance cover offered and cost between them. Both clubs are very reputable so you will not go wrong arranging insurance through either club. Bear in mind at renewal that your 'van will have depreciated so ensure its new value is what you are paying cover for, not the previous year's valus, as it could affect your premium. When we first bought a 'van we insured with Direct Line. We never made a claim and our 'van would have depreciated but, upon renewal at the end of the first year, they bumpeed up their annual premium by 50%!!!! Needless to say we went elsewhere (The caravan Club as it happens). Won't bother ever again with Direct Line for any form of insurance because of that. I understand The National Farmers Union also may offer caravan insurance, so that may be worth checking out. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Him spoke to NFU and they will not insure if it is stored in a city. Daft if you ask me Posted by Darren England on 17 Jul 2013
Was insured with camping & caravan club and had my motorhome stollen. They put me intouch with a claims investigator then failed to take any notice of there recommendations on vehicle value and extras. They out of hand reduced the etelment value by £1000 and would not consider the extras such as awning, electric step built in DVD player and microwave. When I got another motorhome they would not return calls and provide a quotation. They never refused to insure but just wouldn't give cost. Posted by Malcolm Webb on 03 Oct 2014

Hi, I am with Caravan Guard again have not claimed yet but they were very helpful over the phone and provided good cover for my needs at a reasonable price. Good luck with finding the best one for your caravan.

It's very difficult to recommend any particular insurers but, from personal experience, I found the NFU were excellent but like anything else if they happen to put their rates up just before you insure then they would appear less competitive.
The trick is simply to shop around a few reputable insurers.
I would certainly recommend using a specialist caravan insurer (or broker) rather than a household insurer.
From personal experience in the business of caravan repairs we never had any problems with the big caravan insurers who not only understood the industry but tended authorise repairs and to pay out promptly - a grest benefit to you as a customer and me as a repairer.

Touch wood, I have never needed to claim on my caravan insurance so can only go on what I have heard regarding how good companies are at resolving problems.

The Caravan Club Insurance gets excellent reviews, but is not cheap.

If you want cheaper cover try using one of the compare sites (something I have done for a few years now) and make your choice from the list you will receive. I personally go for companies I have heard of rather than just plumping for the cheapest deal.

Hope the above is of use.

It's drifting away from the original question a bit as I don't think they insure caravans but for motorhomes I would highly recommend Comfort Insurance. I had my motorhome insured with them for several years (until I sold it) and they were always very competitive with some great additional features (continental cover & breakdown if my memory serves me correctly)

Hiya!

It's a bit late, but let me briefly tell you what my priority was when choosing an insurance. I wanted to be able to park the van outside, on the road for general cleaning and repairs, packing and unpacking, and so on.

Many insurers will not insure the van in these circumstances, but I found one that will, and they are very helpful and pleasant. The company is Scenic, a specialist caravan and motorhome insurer based in Leeds.

I have not made a claim yet, and hope I never will, but their prices are very reasonable and they are a division of the Swinton Group, so they should be good.

Sorry it's late, but I hope this helps.

Brian, do you mind me asking how much the premium is - this is just the kind of cover we will need! You can private message me if this is too pertinent a question for a public forum :o) Posted by Bekah Mardall on 16 Oct 2014
Hi, Bekah!
No problem. I paid £194 this year, September, but bear in mind that the van is kept for the majority of the time at a gold standard storage site with massive security - cameras, fences, double locking 'airlock' gates - all of which helps the insurance price!
Hope this helps.

There are many companies in the UK. However, you should take an expert advice before taking any insurance. I always compare insurance quotes here ( https://www.comparestaticcaravaninsurance.co.uk/ ) before taking any insurance.

I was unfortunate enough to have my Hymer written off in an accident on the M25 in 2016.
I was insured with Aegis through Camping and Caravan Club. The accident was not my fault, captured on Highways Agency CCTV, supplied to insurance company. They not only paid out in full, more than insured value, but did not charge any excess nor applied any reduction to my no claims bonus. I would highly recommend them. Although not the cheapest you do get what you pay for. It is only when you make a claim that you find out how good they are. Hope this helps

We are with the caravan and camping club and unfortunately we did have to make a claim this year. our van was in an accident in may. after contacting the club our van was written off and the claim was fully settled in about 5 weeks. we now have a new van and have been away twice since the accident, so thanks to them for settling so quickly and efficiently, also we have reinsured the new van through them with no problems. hope this is of some help.

Hi we are with the caravan club and they seem to be about the right price but have never had to make a claim yet. ( touch wood). What I will say is read the small print before you sign.

Well that bit me on the backside. Just got the renewal and its more than last year £386 which is bloody daft. Just rang two others and they are around £225. Gonna do some more tomorrow. Posted by Darren England on 17 Jul 2013
What reason did they give, Darren, for increasing the premium, by the way? And did you switch in the end? Posted by Bekah Mardall on 16 Oct 2014
