I'd just like to echo some of the other post's on this thread, yes there ARE good , 2nd hand options available but buyer beware, safety 1st every time, we all know faulty electrical equipment can prove to be unacceptably expensive in other ways.

buy the best you can afford from a reputable outlet would be my advice

p.s. I don't honestly think you'd have too many worries buying from go-outdoors though Posted by peter goodison on 03 May 2013

There are usually plenty for sale on eBay or Preloved, and you don't have to drive to get them.

I would just suggest that any second hand Electric Hook Up is tested to ensure it is safe. Remember that if your hook up trips on site, you'll need to pay to have it reset.

You should also consider that some of the cheaper electric hook up cables on the market are made from low quality internal cabling and may only be rated up to 10 amps. The better hook up cables are rated up to 16 amps allowing for more power! Good to check before you buy.

Hope this helps.

I'd echo the advice to buy a longer cable. We bought new (have a fear of everything electrical to be honest!) and bought a shorter cable, thinking that the storage would be an issue. We've been to a couple of sites this year, though, where the cable we bought hasn't been long enough to comfortably cover the distance from EHU to the 'van. Hey ho - should have bought the 25 metre cable.

As long as its up to British standards I would get from the cheapest place. I would however get plenty of length to give flexability re pitches.

Yes you can buy a 10 amp BS rated cable, but it could be unsuitable. Darren Young is right you should preferably buy a 16 amp cable which will be safer as you are unlikely to overload it. We carry 3 x 16 amp cables of 25m, 10m and 3m lengths and use the most appropriate one to save trailing leads. Also don't forget to fully uncoil it. The 3m one is normally used to connect our campervan to our carport socket but is sometimes long enough to be used on site. We could also join them together. Posted by alan Myland on 28 Apr 2013
