Hi all ! Does anybody know which waterproofing product is better for rewaterproofing my family tent? I've heard of nikwax and fabsil. Is either of these better or do you know of something more effective then these? Thanks

I would certainly recommend Fabsil - that what we use to re-proof tents and awning commercially.

Depending on how much you need to proof, you can purchase Fabsil in a spray can (small local areas) or in easy pour tins which is much batter for tents and awnings.

Easy to apply; just pour some Fabsil into an old saucepan and grab a soft clean 3" paint brush.
Load the brush and, starting at the top of the tent brush gently into the fabric. Brush strokes should be done both horizontally and vertically. Always start at the top of a panel and allow the fabsil to soak down the fabric, ensure you finish the whole panel before starting the next.

Fabsil is also excellent on pegging out points and you can dip your guy lines, straps, and ladder bands into it to increase their lifespan too!

A 1 litre tin of Fabsil should cost around £10-£15 depending on where you shop.

I hope this helps.

Fabsil is the better of the two you mention. Don't know how big your tent is, but you could also consider a tarp, you can get really big ones quite cheap. Put this over your tent and it will help with uv degradation as well.

Why is fabsil better than nikwax? For both canvas and poly? What is the difference between the 2 brands, other than the fabsil is silicon based? Posted by Val Barley on 10 Mar 2013
