Few camping questions!
What is the best Thermos Bottle to buy to be used for backpacking?

How can you handle drunk, loud campers?

Whats the best way to keep ice from melting for as long as possible?
Any ideas thanks

Keeping ice for as long as possible kind of depends on how much you are willing to spend. There are a few options from £40 ish to ££1000.

The cheapest solution is a passive ice box which will keep ice for between 5 & 10 days depending which brand you buy.

The best option is a portable freezer, expensive to buy but then very cheap to run and by far the best thing since sliced bread. Will stay at -18 (3 star freezer) in the height of summer, so you can keep ice forever as long as you have a power source.

which portable freezer? What cost, what dimensions etc? Sounds a good idea but need to know the practicality of it?
At the moment I use a 50 litre iceytek cool box - cant fault it, but a freezer option would be good if its practical enough

Hi there we have been to a few sites where we were kept up by noisey drunk campers. It was very annoying! Its goof people have fun but not at the expense of others. My best advice would be to only go to campsite with quiet rules. Most of these sites say no noise between 10pm and 8am. At least then you can ask wardens/owners to ask them to be quiet first. A few times we just asked nicely and they were a bit quieter. If they weren't we went to ask wardens. Hope you have a good time.

Hi Dave,

Here are my tips:
1. Take an unbreakable flask (not glass) Nothing worse than feeling warm coffee running down your back when you still have five miles to go before reaching base camp.

2. Book on Camping & Caravan Club sites. They usually sort drunks out. And if they don't they are usually a better class of drunk who will normally invite you to the party.

3. Ice it's a tough one. I would suggest only go hiking in the UK between the months August through to May. With climate change the temperature shouldn't rise much above 1c.

Just wanted to ask Danny Perkins........I would also be interested to know which portable freezer you would recommend. We would like to get one for this season.

There are only really two choices, the Mobicool B40 which is the cheapest protable freezer on the market but only freezes on mains (cooler on 12v). Or the Waeco CDF range, superb piece of kit, will achieve -18 on 12v and takes less than an amp an hour to run so won't kill your battery. Posted by Danny Perkins on 24 Mar 2013
