Does anyone know how I can convert my 12v (6 amp max) socket in my Autotrail Cheyenne 2003 motorhome? It is the only socket attached to my leisure battery but have been warned that if I use a converter travel plug and then plug in my phone I may fry my electrics. I know near to nothing about this so simple idiot proof answers please.
I will upload a photo of the socket to pinboard. Thanks for any help or advice you can offer.

It just bought one of these

http://www.caravanstuff4u.co.uk/plugs-fittings/429-caravan-plug-to-cigar-socket-convertor-w4ai3.html

as I wanted a method of utilising the 2 blade socket in my Bailey Senator. I went for this one as the photo clearly shows the two different sized polarised blades, meaning there's no chance of pushing the plug in the wrong way 'round and blowing things!

Anyway, it works great, and I now have an easy way of keeping the wife happy by being able to charge her phone via this cigar socket whilst we're out in the wilds on 12v only, instead of having to go and plug it into the car with the ignition on as before.

Thanks Stuart it is lovely having use of this socket after 2 years of not being able to use it.
Regards,
Debbie.

Hi Debbie,

You will need to get yourself a car adaptor kit from a car accessories outlet for your phone. You can then convert the two pin wall plug into a cigar plug fitting with an Adapt-it 3. You can get these from leisureshopdirect, their ref is 231918

Hope that helps!

Oh thank you Pete. That answer means the world to me as it has been annoying me. Often the little issues manage to get under your skin but an expert such as yourself saves the day.
Thanks again and happy motoring.

Hi
Before you start pluging in inverters be very carefull.
They can take a huge current and possibly damage the wiring.
If you are going to use one i would recomend running a straight supply from the battery and putting a fuse in this circuit.
I have run a inverter before and would say to you do not buy a cheap one from ebay. i bought one and the thing burst in to flames.
Hope this helps.
Stuart.
