Question: Heating with Gas at night?

I haven't used my gas heating in our caravan over night as I just don't feel safe. I have been told that if I have a carbon monoxide detector then there won't be a problem.

What are other peoples thoughts? Do you do it...or just bring an extra duvet??

I use gas heaters sometimes but I realized these do not cost efficient that's why I started using small portable electric heaters especially at nights.

Hi,
I have just joined the group so only now read your question.
If your gas heater is original equipment fitted by the manufacturer and provided you have it safety checked anually, it is safe to use as the combustion gases are vented to the outside.
CO monitors are always a good idea if you plan to use gas overnight anyway.

Cheers

I think the warnings about CO don't particulstly refer to caravan heating.
All manufacturers use and safety pass gas heating systems. However for your peace of mind, fit a CO monitor.

We have always used the heating in our Motorhomes overnight - never had an issue with it. We have Smoke/CO2 alarms fitted. We have slept in Temps down to -8/9 and the only problem we had was someone knocked on the door early one morning as they were worried about the smoke (steam) coming from the vent in the side of the Motorhome.

Thanks Colin, I think I will fit all the monitors, particularly the smoke/CO ones and then I will feel safe to give it a go!
It is nice to know that the fellow campers cared enough to check you were OK...there is hope yet!
