Question: Electrical Fault

I have a fault on the electrics on my Bailey Senator, which causes my battery to drain occasionally.

If I turn everything off and check the battery level meter, I notice the meter is flickering. I have also noticed that when I turn the 12v on, the radio is also flickering...... hmmm.
Anyone out there had a similar problem? who would like to share how they resolved the problem?

I am proposing to isolate each section of the electrics by removing the fuses until I identify which section has the fault, starting with the leg that feeds the radio.

Any tips on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Mr T

You can pick up a handy gadget at Maplins which gives a current reading (Amps) that you plug into a blade fuse holder - if you find the main battery fuse and remove it then plug this in and put the removed fuse in the gadget you will get a reading of the current being drawn at that point - so if you then remove the other fuses one at a time you can isolate which circuit is causing the power drain - I have found many instances of the battery charger causing a drain (when not powered up) so this could be a likely source of the fault.
Hope this helps

YOU might have a short in the 12V system somewhere. Check any "additions" to the van that were not standard. Ie extra 12V systems, radio if not dealer fit, motor mover etc.

Also check the state of your batter terminals. sometimes they can get corroded.

Also check to see if there is anything turned on when not using it. I found that the TV/FM booster was draining my battery when not needed.

if in doubt call a specialist
