I would like to hear what others think. When it comes to overnight stops for motorhomes, most of us need very little. Perhaps just water ( drinking and wash), ideally a chemical sluice and I guess power would be nice,

The reality is that such facilities a re few and far between. How come France ( with its Aires) does so well, and England does so badly.

What's the obstacle -planners ? It could be a great boost to established tourist attractions that have on-site cafes or toilets, but I suspect there is a local authority mind-set that says 'anyone in a white carvan/motorhome is a traveller' and it scares them to death !

You could be right there, Motor Homer - there is a lot of local authority paranoia about people pitching up and then never leaving.

What would you have in mind? Just a parking up area in a nice spot with the basics laid on?

There is a group at http://www.tmcto.org/ who are starting to address this and have a list of places, pubs etc where you can stay for one night. Have a look and see if it helps

............ most pubs i find....will allow you to stay overnight in their car park/garden area,if you are spending money in their pub....... go in first and ask if its ok...tell them that you want to have a meal and drinks and don`t want to drive afterwards....
..probably 2/3 times a year i go off to tour France for a few weeks at a time....and stay on the French Aires...( you can buy the book "All the Aires in France" from Vicarious Books on internet....every overnight is free and safe...
