Still fairly new to touring and more than a little absent minded by nature...I have decided I need a list of things to do before leaving the 'van each time as usually I forgot something glaringly obvious and then get back to a bit of a problem!

Hence the thread - what are your top tips and suggestions for my list?

So far I have got...
- empty the water tanks - including the grey water (forgot this last time and got back to a fairly bad smell in the piping!
- leave the cushions leaning upright so that air can circulate
- put a splash of vinegar down the sink drains

Anything else?

We always make sure to turn everything off when we leave - even if we're going back the next weekend.

So water, gas and electric all go off.

Also we've found that putting out small bowls of salt during the winter (and when we're not going to be there for a few months) helps absorb some of the moisture created.

And it sounds silly, but placing conkers around the van will keep the spider away!

One of the key things is to drain the water from the system. If you have a water heater it will hold a tank of water along with water in the pipes. If this is left over winter it could freeze and cause a lot of damage. Even it it does not freeze you would not want stagnant water in your pipes.

It sounds obvious but what about turning off the gas? I've almost forgotten that a few times and had to go back to the 'van. Easy if you park it at home...more annoying if it's in storage!
