Question: Televisions in the caravan, Inverter route or splash out on 12v TV?

Hi, we use our caravan to holiday with our dogs on dog show sites, usually using a 2Kw generator for power. We have to turn generators off at about 10 pm so last year tried using an inverter after hours, but this seemed to drain the battery and had to turn the tv off after half to three quarters of an hour to preserve some power for the morning.
Could someone tell me if we will have the same problems with a proper 12 tv?

I got a Samsung T24D390EW 24" TV from PC world that is powered by a 14v power supply. I use this in the caravan running of the 12v leisure battery. It is rated at 2.5A, so allowing for the slight drop in voltage it it should run at about 3A so on a 45 amp hour leisure battery you get 15 hours of running time.
I have never run it that long and it is often not the only thing running of the battery but have I never had problems with it running the battery down during the evening.
Because it is not sold for 12v use it was a lot cheaper than the ones purpose made for this use (£150) but I did have to make up the power lead for the 12v socket in the Van. I could have cut the lead off the power supply provided and just put the 12v plug on that but decided to keep this in tact so I can use it of the mains at home when I don't need it in the van.

inverters are battery hungry so if you plan to be on battery power in a field for any length of time it might be best to get a 12v TV.The other thing to consider is a 12v regulated power supply adapter as this keeps a stable supply when above or below recommended voltages

I bought a 12v/240v 10" screen tv from Maplin....i rarely go onto sites...so plug mine into my Cigarette socket...watch DVD`s in the evenings if i`m not reading...Leisure battery never gone flat....if u need too top it up ..just allow ur van to tick over for 10 mins.
