Watched the News this morning and had a Topic on Senior Drivers. I was astonished to learn that older drivers are 3 times more likely to kill themselves due to Senior Driving Moments compared to a 21 year old boy racer. Plus there will be up to 7 to 8 million over 70 year old drivers on the roads in the next Ten years to the 3 million currently. S.A.S. (Sudden Accelerator Syndrome) being a key cause of many accidents leading to death. Failing Eye sight was another issue with 3 in 10 senior drivers not informing DVLA so as to keep there independence. I can see a re-sit down the road looming.

When you hit 70 you have to have your licence renewed yearly, A medical has to be taken too.... I have a PCV licence, at 45 I have to have a medical every 5 years til I'm 65. Then I either have to give up my PCV or have a medical and renew my licence every year. Not sure if when you hit 70 you have to pay for the medical, but am sure if they did, there might be a few give up.

You do NOT require to have a medical at 70 UNLESS you are renewing your C1 Category licence which enables you to drive a vehicle OVER 3.5 tonnes. Posted by Keith Cowlishaw on 11 Mar 2013

Are you sure Jay?

As far as I can see (DVLA site), at age 70 you have to renew your licence every 3 years and without a medical just a self declaration.

News topics are just that ... news topics - not necessarily factual.
How many boy racers will be on the roads in 10 years time?
What has this to do with caravanning, campervanning or tenting?

there are lots od dodderers on our roads of all ages , you see some that are too busy chatting and waving there arms about that they even aware that another car is there , the ones that annoy me , are people stopping at roundabouts when there are no cars in sight , sitting there when the lights are on green , people cutting corners , people on phones , etc Posted by joe croft on 17 Mar 2013
