I have recently purchased a 6 berth caravan and am considering getting a new car (well probably nearly new!). I intend to do a lot of towing and wandering what peoples thoughts are on getting an automatic car instead of a manual?

Thanks in advance.

Dave,
Go for an auto. They are that good these days and tow really well.
Probably I'd also make sure it's s diesel auto.
With a six berth in tow,, you'll be getting through an awful lot of gear changes in a manual.

Hi Andy,
Sorry about the late reply and thanks for your suggestion and comment. I have taken the plunge and bought a VW Tiguan. Really pleased with it actually, haven't used it for towing yet though....getting the tow bar fitted next week. It is an auto as others recommended the same thing.
Thanks again and I'll let you know how I get on!

Agree, go for an Automatic especially diesel, around 2.5 to 3.0. Litre engine. 4x4 is best for stability and power. Posted by Noel Newton on 01 Jun 2016
