Assuming you're coming from Calais, there is little difference in time between using A26, A1, A75, Paris and Millau and going via A26/A6, Reims, Lyon. Only about 20 minutes total although the Reims - Lyon is a fair bit longer. Both routes have there downsides. Go the Paris route and unless you do some clever navigation, your sat nav and most definitely the sign posts will take you around Paris's inner ring road, the formidable Boulevard Peripherique. If you're used to driving around Central London, OK. I don't recommend it and it's worse for your passengers who don't have the benefit of knowing just what you've seen. I've done it myself towing a caravan on a couple of occasions. Changing lane is the hairy part, There are no gaps. Indicate and pull over without waiting as soon as you have half a chance. Stay in Lane 2 until you reach your exit as the right-hand lane is the one used for entering and leaving the road. Stay on it and you'll keep leaving the Peripherique, going around a roundabout and then coming back on; yes, I did! Millau is absolutely magnificent if views and heights are your thing. They aren't my wife's and she had to keep her eyes shut. when I remarked on the view I got back a terrified "Keep your eyes on the road!" The route via Reims and Lyon is much less hazardous although it is busy around Lyon. There is a handy motorway bypass however. It's the A46, bypassing Lyon to the East.It takes a little longer but the A6 goes right through the centre of Lyon and can be very busy. Hope this has been helpful.
