I ordered a spare part for the motorhome from Leisure Shop Direct and there in the packaging was a flyer for Campsite Chatter ... so here I am.

Having owned a number of elderly and DIY conversion vans over the years I finally graduated to a 'proper' motorhome a few years back; first an Elddis Autocirrus on the old Merc' 207 chassis and, more recently, a Pilote Galaxy A-class on the Peugeot Boxer.

Most of our camping is on the continent, especially France which we find very much to our taste (literally!) but also Spain, Belgium and Germany. We also bought, many years ago, a big American RV in Florida and wandered across the USA for 6,000 miles, finally selling it in the Bay Area California. Since then we've taken a couple more trips in the USA, borrowing my sister's RV, one to Arizona and the Grand Canyon and another through Oregon and Washington State to Canada.

In the UK we use the van for short trips mostly, including visiting the family. Living in West Dorset we are already surrounded by beautiful scenery and a great coastline.

Hi Les,

Where would you recommend in West Dorset? I'd like to camp in a tent, but we do like the hard-standing sites, as they often have great facilities.

Hi Alicia. Because we live here we haven't needed to use any local campsites but there is a simple one in my village. See: http://www.sheridans-guides.com/1535/home_farm_camping_and_caravan_site.htm
Also there is a bigger site a couple of miles from me with a leisure complex, club, shop etc but of course it is rather more expensive. See: http://www.freshwaterbeach.co.uk/
The main attraction of the area is its scenery and in particular the Jurassic Coast. Bridport is a pleasant market town.

I ran out of characters!
Bridport also has a good arts scene and some good cafés and pubs. On the whole West Dorset is a county of simple pleasures, country and coastal villages, natural beauty with iron age hill forts, country walks and the famous cream teas!
