Hi there

I am a solo female motorhome owner and last week I needed to call my Breakdown Service out as I had a fuel leak and had a useless experience with Direct Line, so I am looking for a company more used to dealing with motorhomes. I have tried Green Flag.

Look forward to hearing from a fellow motorhome owner.

We have RAC they cover motorhomes just tell them the length Im got full disabled cover as well so fast response last time I needed them arrived within 15mins but that was for our car when the engine blew

Thank you for your advice. I have had a quote from the RAC as they haven't been including motorhomes until recently, but their quote was very high. I will certainly be checking out other more suitable motorhome companies next time.
Thank you once again and keep enjoying your travels.

We use caravan guard. Only had to call them out once and that was on a Bank Holiday - humph - and not a great experience. They were incredibly busy, grantedly, but it was 4 hours before we were recovered. They just kept telling us one more hour and then at the end of that hour we got a text saying, 'one more hour'. I'm sure if you were a lone lady driver, you might be prioritised, though. The problems were less to do with caravan Guard and more to do with the lack of recovery vehciles in Wales where we were stranded. But we went round and round in cirlces with people on the phone to begin with. Finally, we got someone who seemed to know what they were doing a bit more and then that got it moving.

The one thing you need to ensure is that the Breakdown company know that you have a motorhome. I appreciate this may sound obvious but some are geared more towards cars as opposed to Commercial vehicle based conversions.

The 2 major companies can accommodate motorhomes, but there are also some linked to the major touring clubs. The Caravan Club and Camping and Caravan club both have breakdown cover available and obviously know what they are doing. Downside is that you have to join the club first, the choice is yours.

Best advise is to ring around or get quotes off the internet, remembering that new customers may get a reduced price for the first year, including those offered by the clubs and work out which is best for you.

As a solo camper, I do think it is best to have roadside assistance and relay.

Hope this is of help

Ian

Thank you Ian for your advice, but Direct Line are aware that it is a motorhome and when I made the call the call centre apparently made a note, but still sent out the wrong type of breakdown lorry! I am going to look elsewhere too.
Thank you once again.
