Hi. I am a self converted motorhome user. Going to do some camping and cycling round Exmoor and Dartmoor and the west coast shortly. I can see there are loads of sites but what I am looking for is somewhere with a nice pub in very easy walking distance for drink and meal afterwards? Suggestions very welcome.

Hi Phil,

Cycling around Porlock on Exmoor is good - hard work, though. I'm not fit enough these days ;)

Love the hotel/pub (not sure what it would class it;self as, actually!) at Allerford which is really close to http://www.campsitechatter.com/campsites/info/burrowhayes-caravan-camping-site/8d80c98033b4/undefined

Phil,

This is one of our favourites (and it looks like people on Campsite Chatter like it too from the reviews).

http://www.campsitechatter.com/campsites/info/lydford-caravan-and-camping-park/00cb0652caf4/

We love Lydford as a village because there are a couple of really good, friendly pubs in the village. The Castle is really nice and the Dartmoor Inn is good too. The Lydford Caravan and Camping Park is close to the village - an easy walk. We also like the fact that its on the Granite Way cycle/footpath and there are some great pubs along that route too! Check out the Bearslake Inn in Sourton a few miles along the Granite Way from Lydford. The whole area is really lovely.

Looks like I have added a "best" answer. Didn't mean to do that as all answers much appreciated.

I would also suggest Burrowhayes. There is a walk out of the back of the site which takes you to Porlock, with lots of eateries of different varieties. The Top Ship pub does lovely steaks.

Thanks Claire. Sounds good though how far is the walk ? Posted by phil brown on 27 Jul 2015
sorry didn't reply sooner as just gor back from Burrowhayes today. The walk from the site over the hill to Porlock is just under a mile, but Very steep in places - wonderful views of Wales tho. Posted by Claire Bramley on 02 Aug 2015

Hi Phil,

My boys and have been getting in to camping on Dartmoor and Exmoor.

For the South side of Dartmoor, we enjoyed Dartmoor Shepherds Huts. The facilities are fairly basic but the setting makes up for it. Basically the road towards the moor peters out and this site is at the end of the road! It's not too rough-ground, though, still meadows and pastureland. But it feels like the moor and great access to South Dartmoor. Campfires allowed!!

Up on Exmoor we have used Cloud Camping which is a more organised affair but still a lovely 'back to basics' vibe.

Thanks Alicia but I'm particularly looking for somewhere close to a pub or the like for refreshments at the end of the day if I don't feel like cooking etc Posted by phil brown on 18 Feb 2015
