Hi, I'm a bass player in a born again rock band (born again meaning we're all the wrong side of fifty). Question - should I retire gracefully and put my slippers on or keep on rocking.

Thank you Julie, that was the answer I was looking for. I've even been known to take my bass up to the caravan and do a bit of practice in the awning. With headphones obviously. Don't want to disturb the local wildlife do we! Posted by Raymond Turner on 17 Mar 2013

There are quite a number of musicians who travel with their instruments and can be heard quietly playing a tune while pitched on site. I have also been known to take some of them with me to the local Box & Fiddle Clubs as I am still learning to play the accordion.

Cheers David, I'm touring Scotland in the summer, I'll keep my ears open to see if I can find you.

How could you think its time to get retired? I totally oppose and you should keep on rocking. If any musical instrument or genre is not much popular nowadays, it doesn't mean you should leave your passion. My Uncle was a good jazz singer and very good at playing musical instruments. He lost his job because he hadn't much experience in playing new high tech instruments. However, he used this job loss as an opportunity. He learned to play several musical instruments and these days, he is setting his recording studio and learning to effectively use Thunderbolts like this https://www.sound-beat.com/audio-interface/thunderbolt-usb-c/. All in all, you shouldn't get retired.

On the other hand, in these quarantine days, why don't you try to learn new music like playing a different kind of genre guitar themes etc via mobile applications? Though many of them are paid but as a beginner, you can go with free ones as well. In brief, you need to rock & roll :)

Definitely, it is not the time to retire. I think musicians never retire. Maybe many music artists, even my mother, lived a retired life as musicians, but these Covid-19 days, particularly the lockdown period, changed everything.

Yes, in this lockdown area, she decided to join online communities to play the guitar and other musical instruments. The entire family was shocked, but my mother performed in many concerts with her ordinary old guitar. Recently I purchased a professional guitar, amps and looper pedals by getting guidance from sources like these https://www.happynewguitarday.com/best-looper-pedal/ because she has opened her YouTube channel where her followers are growing rapidly. So, I can also suggest you perform in online concerts and open music channels on platforms like YouTube, Spotify, SoundCloud, etc.

I hope you will change your mind and never quit.
