If you can afford it buy a truckers sat nav, or better still the Caravan Club devise. They avoid the stress of going down any dodgy roads. I thought I could reply on the car system along with my Google maps nav system for my scotland trip. First problem my VW system couldn't find the site, then google maps lost the GPS signal 4 miles from the site. Nearly ended up going across the bridge into Berwick in tweed, which wouldn't have been much fun.

If you have an up and over storm strap and want to prevent it chaffing and causing damage to your awning then I suggest going to your nearest "Pound" shop and buying a twin pack (2 packs if you have a full caravan awning) of car seatbelt shoulder pads. Place them under the strap where it goes over any roof poles. These are stuck together with velcro and do a fantastic job, and at £1 per pair are a cheap and efficient alternative to those made for the job.
