If you like your castles, your history, your views and a sense of sheer exhilaration, you'll love the ruined Castell Carreg Cennan ; gripping as it has done for nearly 1000 years onto a precipitous remote limestone crag in the Brecon Beacons, leaning over the 100 metre high cliff on which it was built, this site is breath-taking without the views it offers. An exciting cliff-face passage way leads dramatically to a natural cave beneath the castle. It's a photographer's and explorer's dream and a great stop-off for those enjoying one of the many breath-taking Brecon Beacons walks in the area. No wonder this treasured national park is such a popular destination for UK camping . The views from the castle over the surrounding countryside are magnificent. No doubt useful in spying and expelling the approaching hoardes of maurauders in a bygone era, its elevation offers the modern visitor fantastic views of the rolling countryside and wild hills and mountains surrounding it. It's an ideal destination to kick-off walking holidays in this famed area of the UK. You do need to pay to get in, but at £12 for a family ticket, it's affordable.Camping in the Brecon Beacons Here you will find Brecon Beacons camping sites close by Castell Carreg Cennan. Use the 'things to do' tab on each site's listing to help you plan ahead; there are reviews, images and directions to pubs, restaurants, attractions and shops listed, all ideal for getting organised!
