On long journeys from Devon travelling east to visit friends, the sight of Stonehenge was always the highlight of the journey, never failing to fuel questions and discussion with its mystical and seemingly sudden 'appearance' in the Wiltshire rolling countryside, implanting itself in our young imaginations. We used to dream of Stonehenge camping, of pitching our tent among the rocks and spending the night looking up at the play of stars between the tablets. It seemed a magical idea but perhaps not so removed from possibility, as there are a number of great campsites nearby Stonehenge to make your base while you explore this fascinating region.and Wiltshire is famous for being relaxing!
