With HRH The Prince of wales as its Patron, the Brecon County Show (www.breconcountyshow.co.uk) prides itself on it's celebration of Welsh agriculture. Brecknockshire Agricultural Society was founded in 1755, when a group of sixteen local landowners met at the Golden Lion Hotel in Lion Street, Brecon and decided to form a society which would support and encourage local agriculture. Some 259 years later, the society is still going strong and has operated without a break since its founding: it is the oldest surviving agricultural society in the UK. Each year the show has 400 horse entries, 100 cattle entries and over 400 sheep entries and also hosts a major sheep shearing competition. If you like your chickens, ducks and geese there's a poultry show. For dog lovers there's a novelty and exemption dog show and a dog agility competition - you can even enter your own pooch. Lovers of all things that go brmmm will enjoy the vintage and modern machinery on display. Add to this falconry displays, fishing demonstrations, gun dog training and advice sessions and a chance to get up close and personal with some furry ferrets and you've got what can only be described as fun, entertainment packed, great family days out. This is a medium sized show, attracting 10,000 visitors from across the region, so there's plenty to see and do with over 100 trade stands and a host of main ring attractions, without losing the flavour and intimacy of a traditional agricultural show. Here you will find campsites within a close distance of the Brecon County Show ground in Brecon so that you can really make a mid-summer weekend of it.
