The Devon County Show (www.devoncountyshow.co.uk) is, quite frankly, a massive event in the county. Celebrating farming and the British countryside, this three day show triggers the start of agricultural shows across the South West. Visit and you can't help but get caught up in the excitement of the farming community at this, their opening ceremony!
With six entertainment rings throughout the show ground, you'll need to plan very carefully if you are going to fit everything that you want to see and take part in into one day.
Sample local beers, ales and ciders in 'The Contented Cow', where over 10,000 pints will be pulled during the 3 days of the show. There is a dedicated bees and honey marquee for those of you who want to immerse yourself in all things hive: why not join the colony? The Craft Hall will be brim full of beautiful hand made local crafts, following in the footsteps of the master lace-makers so famous in Devon's history: why not have a go at lace-making yourself - there are teachers avialable to help you?
The relaxed but informative Country Life area run demonstrations throughout the day of heavy-horse work, falconry, deer conservation and working dogs, fly fishing and clay pigeon shooting. If adrenaline is more your thing, you can fling yourself into a 4 wheel drive vehicle for an exciting off-roading adventure on site. Flower shows, livestock competitions, steam engines and vintage cars, metalwork and forging. You'll leave with your head buzzing with ideas and a smile on your face!
